I am shocked and saddened of the news of the passing of my good friend Barry Silverstein “Brooklyn.” Barry and I attended college together for three years and because I was a fellow New Yorker (originally from the Bronx) we had a lot in common. We lost touch for a number of years, but reconnected and our phone conversations were always entertaining. I will sure miss his voice and our discussions. I have great memories of my friend who was like a brother to me. “Brooklyn” was a great guy; a very kind person with a big heart. I will always remember his big smile. Rest in Peace my brother; may God be with you. My deepest sympathy to his wife Cheryl and the rest of the family. May God Bless you all during this time of mourning.

My friend of almost 50 years from the time we started at Peru State College in 1969. He was a dynamo at Peru, with so many friends. Everyone knew “Brooklyn”. A talented baseball player he led the Peru team with a .458 batting average his first year. He made so many friends over the years and never forgot them, calling people all over the country. Rest in Peace buddy.

Barry was a wonderful man who I loved dearly. He has a special place in my heart. I loved cooking his meals every day and how he would complement them with his famous words to me “You out did yourself again kid”. He was on a low sodium diet and I would go through every recipe and figure out how much he could have. I am going to miss laugh, sitting down to talk to him, joking with him, his love for music and football and his hugs and telling him I love him! The house seems so empty without him. I know he is finally out of pain. I love and miss you Barry!

Barry also did basketball games at Duchesne Academy when his schedule allowed. His humor and iconic “one………..and one” and nicknames for the players made those games so much fun. Sitting next to him keeping the scorebook allowed me to get to know him and appreciate his compassion, his wit and his incredible memory. I think he remembered every player from Creighton Prep and their number and sometimes their stats. Barry was an amazing person and I was blessed to know him.

Barry and I worked at the Post Office together on the west dock for over 20 years. If I was having a bad day “the Stein” always was able to come up with the right words that lifted me up to where I needed to be. Our mutual passion for music made the physicality of the job tolerable. I will miss my BROTHER BARRY deeply. As one Vietnam veteran as I am I salute my dear friend and fellow Vet “the Stein.” God bless you brother Boots on the wire!
Til we meet again my brother…………….

Barry will be missed. He was a delight… always sharing his knowledge, clever stories and a contagious smile at Creighton Prep baseball games. Heartfelt condolences to his family, his friends and all who knew him, and knew of him….
