Served 37 months in the U.S. Navy during WWII, assigned to the USS Escambia and was honorably discharged as a Quartermaster First Class. Honors graduate of Notre Dame University in 1950.

Ben worked for Mutual of Omaha for 37 years. Because of his success in negotiations with Health Care Provider Groups including Dependents Medical Act which provided health care of dependents of active duty service personnel, he was selected in 1965 to represent the company in the administration of the Medicare Act. He retired from Mutual of Omaha in 1987 as Vice President in charge of Medicare Administration.

Ben was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Wanda; his son Mike; his parents, Margaret and Benjamin Patterson, Sr.; and his brother Charles J. Patterson. He is survived by his daughter, Meg Patterson of Auburn, California; grandson, Chaelo, of Santa Rosa, California; and sister, Rosemary Johansson of Elmwood Park, Illinois.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 15th, from 5pm to 7pm 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  SERVICES on Thursday, Nov 16th a 9:15am, West Center Chapel to St. Bernard Catholic Church, 3601 N. 6th St.,  for MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 10am.   Interment, Calvary Cemetery with military honors by Millard American Legion Post 374 and VFW Post 8334.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of one’s choice.
