BERNER, Lois Ann (Meyer)

Lois Ann (Meyer) Berner Feb 17, 1931 – Dec 4, 2015 Born in Howells, Nebraska; died in Omaha. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Agnes Meyer; husband, William L. “Bill” Berner; sister, Jeanette Davis; and brother, Stafford Meyer. Survived by children, Susie Sandstrom (Bob) and Mark Berner (Mary); grandchildren: Scott Sandstrom, Amy McHugh (Mike), Lauren Berner and Haley Berner. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Dee Meyer and Eleanor Carlsen; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lois graduated from Wisner High School in Wisner, Nebraska in 1948, and Norfolk Junior College in 1950. Lois and Bill were married at First Lutheran Church in Omaha on May 29, 1955. Lois worked for District 66/Westside Schools for 23 years, retiring in 1993, and continued to fill in at District 66 schools and offices for almost 20 years thereafter. The students, teachers, staff and administrators of District 66 were among Lois’s greatest sense of connection and pride. Lois was a dedicated member of Pacific Hills Lutheran Church for 45 years and led or served on numerous committees. She was a true “people person” and, along with her love of the Lord, valued her relationships with family and friends more than anything else. Susie and Mark thank the wonderful staff at Brighton Gardens for the care and companionship they shared with Lois over the past two years. Lois was buried at Westlawn-Hillcrest in Omaha on December 14, 2015. A CELEBRATION SERVICE will be held at Pacific Hills Lutheran Church in Omaha on December 29, 2015. The service will be at 11am with the family receiving visitors beginning at 9:30am. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Education Center of the Midlands, the Alzheimer’s Association-Midlands Chapter, Pacific Hills Church, or a charity of your choice.
