Bernie Witt Spark, age 88, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley. Bernie was born January 15, 1924 in Logan, Iowa to Carl and Matilda (Witt) Spark. He graduated from the Beebeetown High School. Bernie was married to Bonnie Jones, June 14, 1953 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Bernie was a long-time employee of Missouri Valley Farm Supply and the Iowa Department of Transportation. He was a life-long member of the First Lutheran Church, served on the Missouri Valley Fire Department, served one term on the Missouri Valley City Council and Fish and Wildlife Association. Bernie enjoyed gardening, Iowa Hawkeyes and High School sporting events. Bernie was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Helen Smith, Ollie Stark, brothers, Paul, Albert and Carl E. Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years Bonnie; daughters: Sheri (Mark) Heffernan; Kay (Ron) Oviatt; Susan (Rick) McHugh all of Missouri Valley, Iowa; grandchildren: Jennifer Oviatt of Denver, Colorado; Megan McHugh of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Michaela McHugh of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson: Jeff Lustgraaf of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Family will direct memorials. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the church following the committal service.
