Betty Ann (Smith) White

Betty Ann (Smith) White

August 12, 1930 – April 20, 2024

Betty Ann Smith was born on August 12, 1930, in Omaha, NE, to Jesse and Lillian Smith. She grew up in Southeast Omaha, and attended UNO, where she met Othol Peel White, who she married on June 6, 1951.  They were happily married and had 4 children, Susan Denise, David Allen, Steven Paul, and Andrew James.

Betty was a lovely homemaker. She enjoyed cooking for her family, entertaining friends, sewing, and gardening.  Betty and Othol retired to Rio Verde, AZ, in 1988 and had a very active retirement there for 23 years.  They loved seeing their old friends from Omaha, who also retired nearby, as well as spending time meeting new friends, golfing, hiking, volunteering at the Heard Museum. Betty loved to play tennis, she played well into her 70’s.  One of Betty favorite places on earth was Maui, HI.  She was blessed to travel there often with family and friends.

Betty moved back to Omaha in 2013, after the loss of her husband in 2009.  Upon her return to her beloved hometown, she was very active volunteering at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, enjoyed being close to family for holidays and birthdays, and enjoyed attending the symphony.

Betty passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, in Omaha, NE, at the age of 93.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Othol Peel White; and parents, Jesse and Lillian Smith.

She is survived by her children: Susan White, David (Alison) White, Steven (Jennifer) White, and Andrew (Jen) White; grandchildren: James Carr, Katherine White, Nancy White, Joseph White, Gail White, Joshua (Mia) White; and great-grandson, Cody Ryan Carr.

As we bid farewell to Betty, we hold onto the cherished memories she leaves behind and find solace in knowing that her love will forever live in our hearts.
