Betty Carolyn Jensen
February 26, 1926 – June 30, 2020
Betty Carolyn (Ohman) Jensen, 94, died peacefully June 30th in her home at the Brighton Gardens Senior Living community in Omaha, Nebraska, with family by her side. She was born February 26, 1926 to Fritz and Olga Ohman in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was a 1944 graduate of Washburn High School.
She met the love of her life, Marius “Morey” Jensen, in junior high school and married him on April 10, 1945, shortly before the end of World War II. They were married for 73 years.
Betty was a full-time homemaker and devoted mother who supported Morey in his career with Bell Telephone and AT&T. The telephone company sent them from Minneapolis to Omaha, where they raised three daughters, to Morristown, New Jersey, and later to Denver. During those years, they made numerous lifelong friends within the telephone company and caravanned cross country with many of them in their motorhomes. In 1984 they retired to Sun City West, Arizona, where they lived for 20 years, and later returned to Omaha to be closer to family.
Betty was an avid reader, golfer, bowler and bridge player with a love of animals, especially dogs. She was a charter member of Morningstar Lutheran Church in Omaha and volunteered her time to the church and other charitable causes. Her kind, compassionate, and loving spirit will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her youngest daughter, Betsy Jensen; and her grandson, Zachary Prescott. She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Fred) Starrett and Janet (Joe) Vivencio; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The Jensen family wishes to thank the staff of Brighton Gardens for the attentive care and kindness shown to Betty during the past two years and to Serene Care Hospice. Betty loved her caregivers and was always grateful for the care she received.
In celebration of Betty’s life, memorials are suggested to Morningstar Lutheran Church or to the Nebraska Humane Society.
