Betty J. (Swanda) Baker

February 28, 1930 – February 5, 2020

 

Betty was born February 28, 1930 in Yutan, NE.  Married to Earl D. Baker, the love of her life, on November 14, 1954 in Fremont, NE in a double wedding with her sister marrying Earl’s brother.  It made for a tight-knit family.

Betty was a longtime member of the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Churches in Fremont, Falls City, and Omaha.  She had a strong faith and served as a Sunday School teacher in Falls City and as a Diaconate in the Falls City and Omaha Churches.  She was a former Church secretary in the Omaha Church.

Betty went back to work at the age of 58 when Earl became ill and she retired at the age of 83.  She loved her work and the people she worked with at ENHSA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents, Lad and Nellie Swanda; her brother-in-law, Francis Baker; sisters-in-law, Karen Swanda and Marilyn Anderson; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Baker.  She is survived by her daughter, Deb Baker; twin sons, Roger (Deb) and Rob (Tutti) Baker; grandsons: Lad (Carissa) Baker, Ian (Courtney) Baker, Kaleb (Ashley) Baker, serving in the U.S. Army and Justin (Caitlin) Stice, serving in the U.S. Navy; granddaughter, Amber (Gilbert) Imbiri; great-grandsons, Liam Baker, twins Brethson and Brazen Imbiri; great-granddaughters: Ariana and Aurora Baker, Mayeleila and Oliana Imbiri; brothers, Harry and Marvin (Teresa) Swanda; sister, Norma Baker; a niece; nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nephews.

She dearly loved her family and enjoyed her time around them.  She was an amazing woman and will be sorely missed.

Family will receive friends Monday, February 10th from 6pm to 8pm, at the West Center Chapel.  FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, February 11th, 10:30am, First Christian Church (6630 Dodge St.)  INTERMENT: 2pm, Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, Nebraska.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Christian Church.

    Thank you Deb for letting me know about your Mom’s passing. She was a loving, lovely woman, full of generosity and kindness. What a spirit!!
