Beverly J. Finnigan
June 19, 1937- April 23, 2025
Beverly (Polito) Finnigan, aged 87, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at Aksarben Village Memory Care, surrounded by the love of her family and the enduring spirit of her faith. Born on June 19, 1937, in Omaha to Joseph and Fina (Miloni) Polito. Beverly lived a life dedicated to her family, her faith, and her community.
Beverly’s journey of love began on August 13, 1960, when she married her beloved husband, Thomas Finnigan, at St. Ann’s Church in Omaha. Together, they built a strong family foundation, nurturing their five children and instilling in them the values of education and faith.
Her educational journey led her to Duchesne College, where she cultivated a love for learning that would later translate into a fulfilling career as a teacher and then librarian. Beverly began her career in education at OPS but then stayed home with the children. When Tom and Bev moved to Sidney, she began her career at the Sidney Public Library around 1996, where she shared her passion for books and succeeded getting the funding needed to build a brand-new library, with her retirement in 2014.
Throughout her life, Beverly and her family moved to various communities, including Norfolk, Nebraska; Holdrege, Nebraska; and Sidney, Iowa, following opportunities that supported her husband’s career. Despite these moves, Beverly always created a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and faith.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Finnigan Sr., who was her partner in life for many cherished years; her parents, Joseph and Fina Polito; brother, Salvatore Polito; and numerous first cousins and close friends.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Finnigan Jr. (Krissy) of Kansas City MO; Jeanne Finnigan-John (Terrence) of New York City; Terri Finnigan-Poitras (Stephen) of Omaha; Mark Finnigan (Jennie) of Kansas City MO, and Mary Gallardo (Fortino) of Omaha.
Beverly had 11 grandchildren: Tom Finnigan III, Jacob Finnigan, Dustin Finnigan, Michael John, Thomas John, Jack Poitras, Charlie Poitras, Justin Finnigan, Jordan Finnigan-Dye, Joseph Gallardo and Anthony Gallardo.
She was a great-grandmother to Kaden Finnigan and Skyler Dye, and a wonderful aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
The Finnigan family extends their heartfelt gratitude for all the thoughts and prayers during this time of loss.
In the spirit of Beverly’s enduring faith and heritage, we offer this Irish blessing:
“May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
Mom – rest in eternal peace, forever held in the grace of God’s love.

A special, wonderful, fun cousin. God bless her and her great family.
Bev & I had some good times together.
I was so very sad to hear about Bev passing away. She was my Mother-In-Law for many years and we came to care about each other very much. Bev was a wonderful woman and is now with Tom Sr.and at peace.
Beverly and Joey laughing together is a great childhood memory. Your Mother was a wonderful person and I’m sorry for your loss.
Im so sorry for your loss! The entire Finnigan family is in our thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry to hear about Bev. I met her at the old library in Sidney. We were in a book club together for awhile at the new library. She was a lovely person and I shall miss her until we meet again in Heaven.
