Bonnie Bee Venhaus

Bonnie Bee Venhaus

March 30, 1940 – October 14, 2023

Preceded in death by stepsisters, Jan Bucklin and Marlene Farnham.  She is survived by her husband of 61 1/2 years, Gary; daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Palu; grandchildren, Jessica (David) Pepek, Cristina Palu and Tony Palu; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Rowan, and Luna.

Bonnie was a huge Husker Fan and Hippo Collector. She volunteered at the Red Cross and would often be called in late at night to help people get situated in a temporary lodging, and provide food and drink for the firemen.  She also volunteered at the Nebraska Humane Society.

She was a copywriter for Golds, Miller & Paine, Brandeis, Richman Gordman, and the 1/2 Price Store. Granted these companies are no longer in business; which would lead us to believe that she was the glue that kept these companies going.

Bonnie enjoyed playing all types of games and was a member of Bridge Clubs for over 50 years. She loved playing tennis and racquetball, and won many awards over the years.

Some may not know that Bonnie was the last of the Mangelsen Witches. Bonnie, along with her best friend, Donna Schultz, who passed away in June of this year, enjoyed entertaining people with their scary witch costumes. When Bonnie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about two years ago, Donna called every night and announced that it was her nightly nuisance call. Bonnie and Donna were great friends!

I had the great pleasure of working with Bonnie and her good friend Donna at Richman Gordman and the 1/2 Price Stores. Bonnie was kind, fun and a talented writer.. Always happy and ready for anything. When she wore her witch costume she would not leave her character no matter how much you tried to make her. Tee Hee Hee! My deepest condolences.
