Brandon Jay Urban, 41, was called from this life to his heavenly home on August 4, 2021. He was born on July 23, 1980, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Bob and Lana (Schroeder) Urban. He grew up in Seward and attended Nebraska Wesleyan. Brandon married Kelsey McKenzie on November 13, 2004. They were blessed with three children: Jace, Kenzie, and Levi.
Brandon was the vice president of commercial lending at First Westroads Bank in Omaha. He was actively involved in all of his children’s’ activities from coaching to “dance dad” to golf partner. Brandon loved golfing, traveling, Chicago Cubs baseball, and spending time with friends.
Survivors are his wife, Kelsey Urban; children: Jace, Kenzie, and Levi; parents, Robert and Lana Urban of Seward; parents-in-law, Bill McKenzie of York, Tom and Sandy Friedli of York; two brothers, Drew Urban (Tina) and two children of Norfolk, Kent Urban of Kansas City; brother-in-law, Derek McKenzie (Paige) and three children of York; sister-in-law Alix Adams (Alex) and son of York; grandmother, Mary Ann Schroeder, Columbus.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 8th from 2pm to 4 pm. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: Monday, August 9th at 10:30am, all at King of Kings Church, 11615 “I” Street. Please wear your favorite golf shirt or polo in honor of Brandon. Brandon Jay Urban of Omaha, Nebraska, originally from Seward, was born on July 23, 1980, to Robert and Lana (Schroeder) Urban in Lincoln, Nebraska. Brandon was called from this life to his heavenly home on August 4, 2021. Matching his selfless and generous personality, it was his decision to be an organ donor.
Brandon was baptized on August 24, 1980, at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse, Nebraska. At the age of 2, Brandon and parents moved to Seward. He attended St. John Lutheran School through eighth grade, was confirmed at St. John, and graduated from Seward High School in 1999. Brandon was a member of the Seward High basketball and golf teams. He won the Class B individual state golf championship his junior year. Following high school, Brandon attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau and a four-year letter winner on the Nebraska Wesleyan golf team. While at Nebraska Wesleyan, Brandon met the love of his life, Kelsey McKenzie. On November 13, 2004, they were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Brandon and Kelsey spent their married life in Omaha, Nebraska where they were blessed with three children: Jace, Kenzie, and Levi. His family meant the world to him and he meant the world to his family. Brandon was actively involved in all of his children’s’ activities from coaching to “dance dad” to golf partner. Brandon and his family were members at King of Kings Church in Omaha.
Brandon began his banking career at Omaha State Bank, then spent time at 1st National Omaha before becoming the vice president of commercial lending at First Westroads Bank. He enjoyed being a business partner with his clients providing them services to help them prosper. Brandon was an avid and talented golfer. He was a proud member of Champions Run Golf Club where he served as a board member and won a stroke play club championship and multiple match-play club championships. Brandon developed long-lasting friendships to all who were privileged to have known him. He was a role model and mentor to his brothers, brother-in-law, and sisters-in-law and was a reliable, humble, and trustworthy friend to everyone he met. Brandon enjoyed traveling with Kelsey and spending time with their friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, Nebraska Husker sporting events, the Chicago Cubs, and fishing with his family. Brandon will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kelsey Urban; children: Jace, Kenzie, and Levi; parents, Robert and Lana Urban of Seward; parents-in-law, Bill McKenzie of York, Tom and Sandy Friedli of York; two brothers, Drew Urban (Tina) and their two children, Alexis and Ryan of Norfolk; Kent Urban of Kansas City; brother-in-law, Derek McKenzie (Paige) and their children: Harper, Hudson, and Hayes of York; sister-in-law, Alix Adams (Alex) and son Peter of York; grandmother, Mary Ann Schroeder of Columbus; aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.
Brandon was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Elda Mae Urban and Allen Schroeder and Uncle Kenneth Urban.
All services will be at King of Kings Omaha. Visitation: Sunday 2-4 PM. Celebration of Life Service: Monday 10:30 AM. Please wear your favorite golf shirt or polo in honor of Brandon. Our hearts aches for you and your family Kelsi. Brandon was one of the best guys we ever knew. Brandon’s a hero. No words can describe this situation, but there are so many people just standing by to help. You’ll all see him again someday and he’ll be waiting with his arms wide.
We were devastated by this tragic news. Brandon was the best of the best and he will be sorely missed by all. May God rest his soul and provide comfort to Bob, Lana, Kelsey and every single member of the wonderful Urban family.

I am so sadden to hear the news of your passing. My last two voicemails are from you which I didn’t even get to listen to until after I heard the awful news. I’m so so sad and numb. I worked with Brandon a few years and can truly say he was a Godly man. He walked the walk and treated everyone with dignity and kindness. It was a privilege to have known Brandon. He will be missed by many. May God comfort the Urban family and many friends today and in the days ahead.
