Brent S. Olson, age 53, of Missouri Valley died on Friday, December 2, 2016 at his home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Brent was born August 28, 1963, to Paul and Elaine Olson in Hamburg, IA. He graduated Mason City High School, 1982; NIACC, 1984; and Iowa State University, 1987, with a degree in forestry. He married Amy Lippitt on October 10, 1987. Brent was an active member in Country Bible Church in Blair for the past nine years. He attended Bible studies at the church and at a church in Onawa. He became a believer when he was young and was rebaptized 2 years ago. Brent was the area forester for the Loess Hills State Forest in which he has doubled the size of the forest since taking the position in 1991. He was also a member of the National Society of American Foresters, in which he served on both state and national boards, was one of two certified foresters in the state of Iowa, and received the Presidents Award Outstanding Field Forester in 2012. He also received many other awards for his service in forestry. Brent served as the coach for the Blair YMCA Swim Team for the past 7 years. He dearly loved coaching all the swimmers and was especially proud of winning the Nebraska YMCA State Title in March of 2016. He served on the West Harrison school board for many years and as the board president for the past several years. The West Harrison softball little league was also coached and coordinated by Brent. He had a passion for baseball and softball and loved to coach all the kids. The Olson family trips often revolved around visiting Major League Baseball stadiums around the country and National Parks. He reached his goal of visiting all 50 states this past summer and only had 4 baseball stadiums left to visit. He always made a point to help others around him and was very generous with his time and talents. He is survived by his wife, Amy Olson and their two children, Jessica, 17, and Rachael, 13; mother, Elaine Olson of Pleasant Hill; sisters, Kim Olson (Simo), Chicago, IL, and Julie Kuecker (Troy), Prairie City; nephews, Chase and Tyler Kuecker; niece, Alexis Kuecker; sisters-in-law, Sara McInerny (Bob) of Fairbank, IA, and Peggy Buckles (Bob) of West Lake, CA; brothers-in-law, Hugh Lippitt of Loves Park, IL and Thom Lippitt (Colleen) of Newark, CA and many other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by His father, Paul Olson of Mason City, IA, and grandmother and grandfather Jean and Chase Rinehart of Prairie City, IA. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
