Britton S. DeWeese

Britton S. DeWeese

October 29, 1971 – January 31, 2025

Britton “Britt” Shannon DeWeese was born on October 29, 1971, in San Antonio, TX to William Shannon DeWeese and Patsy (Houston) DeWeese.  He grew up in San Antonio, later moving to Houston attending Cyprus Creek High School, where he was active in Jr. ROTC and began his lifelong love of cars.

Britt joined the US Army in 1992.  He served in Bosnia during their civil war, Germany, and Fort Hood, Texas.  He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 2000.  He loved America and was extremely proud of serving this great country.

On August 31, 1997, Britt met Cathy Langan in a bar in TX because a friend of Cathy’s asked him to play darts with her.  Cupid hit his bullseye, and it stuck for 25 beautiful years.  When Cathy moved back to NE, Britt finished his service in the Army, then that proud Texan moved to NE.  He never loved the snow and cold but he did love living in NE.  The two were married on Jan. 8, 2000, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lincoln.  While living in Lincoln Britt got his associate’s degree in computer science and worked for Lancaster County.

Britt and Cathy moved to Omaha in 2002, when the company Cathy works for, Gallup, moved its HQ there. They became parishioners of St. Margaret Mary’s because after attending their first Mass there, they both agreed “it felt like home”.  Britt loved how the church reminded him of the churches he’d visit in Europe. They became active members in the school and parish and their 3 sons (Gabe, Joe and Sam) all graduated from St. Margaret Mary School.  The boys all continued their education at Creighton Prep High School.  Britt was proud of being a “Prep Dad”.

Over the years Britt developed his skills and talents in construction project management and estimating by working at a few Omaha companies.  He was known for saying “Every place I worked taught me what I needed at that time.”  He most recently worked at MCL, a company he dearly loved.  He would come home from work and say, “I love it there”.  He called it the “Catholic construction company” because of how many coworkers shared his faith.

Britt was quite the renaissance man.  He was very mathematically and mechanically minded.  He could fix or build almost anything.  If he didn’t know how to do something, he would watch a YouTube video and teach himself.  Everything from car repairs, installing wood floors, half-pipe in the backyard, a life-sized Lunar Lander float for the fourth of July parade, shed in the backyard, to any home improvement.  He was an expert at random things and had an incredible memory for facts and details.  Known for his stories and sense of humor, he was a natural communicator; that was how he built friendships at work and at home.  He had a variety of interests.  He loved his Catholic faith, ’70s and ’80s music, comic book collecting, muscle cars, powerlifting, football, but especially Creighton Prep, the Huskers, A&M and the Dallas Cowboys, being a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, visiting with his neighbors on JE George Blvd, fixing things, Clash of Clans, and helping anyone who ever asked him.  Britt was known for being the guy you could count on.  One of the ways he showed his love was through the service and support he gave to others.  Once you were in his circle, you were in and you knew it. From co-workers, to parishioners, to neighbors, to his boys’ friends, to pets, to family and friends near and far Britt’s authentic and intentional generosity knew no limits.

His greatest love was his family.  When asked how he was doing, he would always say “Living the dream, every day!”  He really meant it.  His family was his dream come true.  He loved unconditionally.  Creating a home with Cathy, raising their 3 sons, going to every one of their events; Britt never missed a thing with any of them.  He was their greatest supporter and champion.  If you went to a game or meet, you heard him loudly cheering on his boys.  He was the best husband and father.  His legacy of integrity, Catholic faith, steadfast reliability, sense of humor, kindness, intelligence, and generous spirit will live on in his sons.  God has blessed us all for knowing Britt. He would want us to count our blessings, give glory to God, and “live the dream every day!”.

He was preceded in death by his father, William DeWeese; grandparents, Minnie Lee and Kenneth DeWeese; grandfather, Vincent Calicchia; father-in-law, Bernie Langan

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cathy DeWeese; sons: Gabe (21), Joe (18), and Sam (15) DeWeese all of Omaha; sister, Kim and James Snead of West Palm Beach, Florida; brother, Vincent DeWeese of Thessaloniki, Greece; stepmother, Judy DeWeese (Mark Hansen) of Oakwood, Texas; grandmother, Patricia Calicchia of Cypress, Texas: aunt, Bobbi Douglas of Overland Park, KS; aunt and uncle, Becky and Rick Lamb of Baldwin City, KS; and many other family and friends.

Visitation: Wednesday, February 5th, from 4-7pm at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 7pm.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, February 6th, 10:30am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

Extremely sad to hear of the news this morning. Britton was the guy that welcomed my husband and I to the Creighton Prep football team family and would talk to us at every game. His cheers were always the loudest and it was apparent that he loved watching Sam play. Sincerest condolences and prayers.

DeWeese family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Britton was an amazing person, always full of joy and ‘living the dream!’. He always had a smile on his face. I feel blessed to have worked with Britton at MCL, and he will be truly missed.

MCL isn’t the same without Britton. He exuded positivity and felt like a friend that I’ve known forever. He was a skilled estimator and a “first one in, last one out” type of employee that consistently took on the most difficult projects. It’s hard not seeing his Challenger in the parking lot and hearing him quietly “happy whistling” while walking down the halls. I’ll miss our long chats about the Army and every thing else under the sun. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, whom he spoke fondly about often. ‘Till we meet again. Hooah!

Cathy, this is Anne, former teacher at the Gallup CDC — Joe and Sam were in my class. I am so, so sorry to hear about Britt. I will be thinking about you and your family. Please give your boys a big hug from me!!

I started at MCL around the same time as Britton, his smile, energy, and joy radiated every time you chatted with him. His presence in the office is already missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time.

Britton & I shared a love of all things Star Wars, sending me the best star wars memes that we’d trade back and forth at work, or discussions on what new Star Wars toy / ship he was going to buy his boys (but I think secretly for himself). He will truly be missed by all who knew him but know that his Force will be with you, always. Thinking of you all during this very difficult time.

Britton brought such joy and positivity to MCL. Each morning when he came to work, he greeted me with a smile and always asked how I was doing. He was such a kind and thoughtful person. The DeWeese family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Dear DeWeese Family,

My name is Matthaios, I live in Athens. To my regret, I didn’t have the honour of knowing Sgt. DeWeese, but his brother Vince is a good friend of mine. Please accept the sincerest condolences of a stranger from across the sea. I know and have heard what a great person he was. May God make his soul to shine in perpetual light and may his Memory be Eternal!
