Caden Matthew Rhods was born on June 1, 2022. He was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and had a challenging journey ahead of him. In his five and a half months, he had two open heart surgeries and spent over three months in the hospital. Even with all of this, he was such a happy baby. He had a heartwarming smile and big, blue, expressive eyes.

The two months he spent at home were filled with love and time with his family. Caden was able to visit the zoo and also the pumpkin patch (which was his favorite place). He enjoyed tons of bathes and watched big brother Luke play football, soccer, and swim lessons. Big sister Lexi was always by his side, trying to talk to him and dance with him. The 3 of them had such an amazing bond, and it was precious to see. Caden’s smile and personality will always be missed but never forgotten. He has brought so much joy not only to our family but to so many others.

Caden, you have brought people closer to God on this journey. Even though your journey here has ended, just remember how much we love you and always will love you, but we will also continue this journey so we can see each other again in heaven someday. We will be forever grateful to all the nurses, doctors, and medical staff that took care of our sweet Caden. We are also thankful to each and every person that prayed for him. It gave us so much comfort throughout this entire journey. Caden, we are so proud of you and how strong of a fight you put up! You are truly a heart warrior.

Dusty, Janice and the entire Rhods family; my heart goes out to each of you. Though I never met Caden, I could see his strength, love and happiness through his smiles in the pictures and videos I’ve seen. I told Dusty that if Cadens smile didn’t make your day, then nothing would.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I didn’t get to meet this sweet little guy. I got to know him a little bit from Amber. He touched my heart halfway across the country. Rest easy little buddy! Watch over your wonderful family.

Caden was always one of my favorite patients to visit. His huge eyes and bigger smile always made my day. He will be missed more than he can imagine. I am so sorry for your loss. My whole family is thinking of yours.
