Carol J. Balak
Carol J. Balak, 80, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away in the early morning hours of February 24, 2023. She was born to Louise Brungardt and Robert Christensen. Carol was a lifelong resident of Omaha, graduating from Tech High School in 1961.
Carol began her avocation in banking following graduation. Once blessed with children, she stayed home to raise them. She was an avid volunteer, active room mother, and 4-H leader. She returned to work years later, opening her own financial planning business.
Carol was a talented seamstress, sharing her gift by making costumes for the school play, and designing dresses and draperies for her home. She was passionate about her yard, a fervent gardener, and spring was her favorite time of year. Each year, you could find a new yellow bloom to adorn the landscape. Her favorite room in the house was her kitchen. A fabulous cook, she looked forward to special occasions, meal planning, and trying out new recipes. Our fondest memories are of her champagne taste and her fancy for Sutter Home Moscato.
She was a beloved grandmother, mother, and wife. She is survived by her daughter, Courtney Flanagan (Lincoln); and a beautiful legacy of grandchildren to include: Corbin Elliott (Ogallala), Lindsay Elliott (Little Rock, Arkansas), Carigan Elliott and Camden Elliott (both of Lincoln). She was preceded in death by her longtime love and best friend, William “Bill” Balak; and her mother, Louise Christensen. Her greatest joy was family and spending time with Bill at their home away from home… Leech Lake!
Celebration of Life: The family will receive visitors this Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a rosary at West Center Chapel. Immediately following, family and friends are invited to share a toast in Carol’s honor at Fleming’s, 140 Regency Parkway, Omaha, Nebraska.
Memorials will be directed by the family.
