Carole Anne (Opbroek) Mueting

June 16, 1936 – August 25, 2021

Carole Mueting passed away at age 85, on Wednesday, August 25th peacefully surrounded by her family at Heritage at Sterling Ridge.

Born June 16, 1936 in Gregory, SD to William and Florence Opbroek, Carole grew up in the small town of Bonesteel, SD where she graduated from high school in 1954. After graduating from high school, she attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD where she received her bachelor’s degree in music-playing piano.

She later moved to the state of Washington with her then husband Robert Mueting. She gave birth to her only child, Robert. Soon after, she moved to Omaha, NE and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she received her master’s degree in Social Work. She worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Foster Care for over 35 years before retiring. She then enjoyed babysitting and spending time with her grandkids.

Carole is survived by her son, Robert Mueting and spouse, Ryan Newton; Robert’s former spouse, Diana Mueting; grandchildren: Justin and his wife Jamee, Melissa, and Brandon Mueting; three great-grandchildren: Nick, Xander, and Carter; cousins: Madonna and Madesta Opbroek of South Dakota, and Meg and Steve Morse-Barry and family of New Hampshire.

VISITATION: Thursday, September 2nd from 5pm to 6pm followed by MEMORIAL SERVICE at 6pm at the West Center Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to JDRF.

    Carol and I grew up together…she the bright 10-year old…who’s parents ran the local drug store in Bonesteel…this store had everything–Carol was close to the top in her class…quite good with the piano.. in our younger days in the 40’s and early 50’s…life was good….we thought it would never end. —-does it really?–i think not…for the spirit we suspect….is eternal.
