Cassie (Claire) Burke Heim, 77, of Omaha, NE, was called home on April 27, 2024. Even though she has left earth, her loving heart still shines a beacon of light for all who shared the privilege of knowing her and were touched by her.
Cassie was born on June 3, 1946, to Eugene and Zelma Burke in North Platte, NE. The family moved to Omaha, where she graduated from Marian HS and enrolled at St Joseph’s to study nursing. Cassie started her career in the ER, moved into private practice, and ultimately she would spend half of her 50 year career doing what she loved the most, in hospice end of life care helping people and their families prepare for their next journey. Cassie’s compassion and care touched thousands of lives all throughout the city.
Cassie enjoyed photography, mostly of natural subjects like birds and flowers. She loved bicycling, sewing, gardening, the arts, Notre Dame football, history and antique furniture, Irish music, and opera. Her most favorite activity might have been reading her newspaper while watching Jeopardy and the nightly news.
She is survived by her three children: Kriston Pope (Terry), Aimee Evans, and Michael Heim. She was a proud Grammy to Sydney, Austin, Dayne, Elliott, Kennedy, and Brennen.. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Charlie and Waylon; and four siblings: Tim Burke (Connie), Jim Burke (Dina), Tess Neve (Jeff), and Mike Burke (Katherine).

Please accept my sincere sympathy in the death of your Mom, sister, cousin, grandmother and friend. Rest in peace dear Cass.
Cassie Helm was such a good caring person.. The nursing profession was perfect for her as she was a credit to her calling. Go with God, kind Cassie.
I adored Cassie. We worked side by side at BCBSNE. We had many good times and she and I were so comfortable working together. I was devastated when she left BCBS for greener pastures. May she rest in peace.
With sadness, I read of Cassie’s passing. She and I were good friends in the 1970s while working together at Bergan Mercy. She was fun, dedicated, wise and a good friend as we survived the challenges of bedside nursing. After we went our separate ways I had nice chats with her when we would meet at nursing events in the city. I lost contact with her when my family and I moved to Ohio 25 years ago. My sincere prayers and condolences to her family and to all who loved her. May she rest in peace.
We send our deepest love and condolences to all of Cassie’s dear friends and family. Rest in peace.
Dear Tess et al,
Heartfelt thoughts, prayers and love.
May dear memories fill your heart(s).

I worked with Cassie on the hospice team at Bergan Mercy. I learned so much from her. She was so kind and gentle with her patients. She deeply cared for them and her coworkers. You will never know the number of lives she touched this side of heaven. She was a blessing to me. My prayers to her family. Keri
