Charles “Bob” Robert Drake

Charles “Bob” Robert Drake

December 5, 1936 – May 10, 2023

Charles “Bob” Robert Drake (86) of Omaha, Nebraska entered his heavenly home on May 10, 2023. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on December 5, 1936.

“And now… the rest of the story” – Paul Harvey

Bob was the oldest of three children and came from a musical family. As a child he spent time practicing the piano, while others were out playing sports. This dedication led him to a lifetime of sharing his gift with others. He traveled around the world with a band after college entertaining the troops and was a Director of Music at 3 different churches. He was often found at family gatherings, sitting at the piano sharing his songs and stories.

Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1965 and truly loves his country. He began working in the commercial insurance industry at the end of his military term and continued to work – doing what he loved – until his most recent hospitalization in March of 2023. In addition, he became certified in broadcast engineering and volunteered countless hours, over 32 years, growing the video and broadcast ministry for Westside Church. Bob was a servant, a leader, and a mentor – sharing his passion and love for Christ in everything he did.

Bob married Sally Sheridan in 1961 in Miami, Florida, and they began their family in 1965. He was a father of 2, grandpa of 4 and a great grandpa to 5 precious children. He was a protector and provider and loved deeply. He leaves us all with wonderful memories and will truly be missed.

He is preceded in death by his dad, Robert Alexander Drake; and his mom, Ruth Drake; brother, James Otis Drake; sister-in-law, Martha Drake.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; daughters, Diane Hansen (Mark) and Debbie Portofee (Marc); grandchildren: Ryan, Brandon, Marcus and Chelsea (Jonathan); great-grandchildren: Kaydance, Nikolas, Aubrey, Caroline and Scarlett.

He loved the lord and strived to live each day based on one of his favorite Bible verses:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3: 5-6

I had the honor of being a colleague and friend of Bob’s. He was always an inspiration to me and someone I could share stories and pray with at work. That’s not real common these days. When he learned that my dad had passed he spoke to me in a way that others didn’t. I don’t know how to explain it. He always asked how my mom was doing after she had taken her first bad fall. Bob shared stories with me that inspired me and his day to day routine and desire to always be able to tell Sally he had some awesome wins helped me recognize what a grounded love is. Thank you, Bob. I appreciate the rock you are in my life. I refuse to say were because Bob is in the Dan I am today and I am blessed because of that.

I had the honor of working with Bob straight out of my college days as I began a career in radio. He was always kind and had. a smile for everyone. I randomly ran into him several years in a row at the apple jack festival and it was always a pleasure to see him. What a great man!!

I worked with Bob at KGBI. We had some great chats while we worked together. He always spoke so lovingly of his family and was quick to smile! I pray the God of all comfort, comforts you…may He make all grace abound to you as He bottles your tears and holds you close to His heart. I’m reminded of John 15:16 when Jesus said “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain…” The lives Bob touched are an evidence of that! God bless you…
