Charles Edward Bugenhagen
November 26, 1932 – August 30,2023
Charles was born on November 26, 1932, in Norfolk, Nebraska. After completing high school, he attended the University of Nebraska and later joined the United States Army, where he was stationed in Louisiana.
On December 30, 1953, he married Margaret Elaine Karthaus in Norfolk, Nebraska. After serving in the Armed Forces, Charles was honorably discharged from the military. Charles and Margaret Elaine then settled into their new home in Mitchell, South Dakota, where Charles began his business career.
Charles had an entrepreneurial spirit and co-founded a furniture store alongside his father, which the father-and-son team operated for decades. While managing the business, he also raised his family of four with Margaret Elaine.
Charles eventually retired from the retail furniture industry. He moved with Margaret Elaine to Omaha, Nebraska, where he continued his career for years as a Consultant in the furniture industry.
Charles was an accomplished golfer, a skill he passed down to his son, Jeff. Besides golf, he enjoyed pheasant hunting and traveling to different places with his family.
Charles was 90 years old when he died on August 30, 2023 at his Sioux Falls, South Dakota residence.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Elaine; brother, John Bugenhagen; daughter, Barb Skancke; son and daughter in-law, Jeff and Veronica Bugenhagen; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Todd Wintersteen; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jeff Baker, in addition to nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, September 7, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at the West Center Chapel, 7805 W Center Rd. Omaha, NE. INTERMENT: Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.

He will be greatly missed. I enjoyed getting to take care of him while he was in Lennox, we shared many laughs!

I just found out about Charlie’s passing. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Bill and I had so much fun with Charlie when he would come visit the Mattress Company in Omaha.
I’m sure He and Bill are catching up in Heaven.
