Charles G. McEvoy
April 12, 1935 – January 4, 2025
t is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Charles Gayle McEvoy.
Charles grew up on a farm in Yutan, Nebraska with his 4 brothers, Jack, Don, Bob and Bill. Life on the farm was tough for the 5 boys. Daily, they had to milk the cows and get the rest of their chores done before walking to their one-room schoolhouse. Their quaint farmhouse had no electricity or running water.
After their father’s untimely death when Charles was only 10 years old, the boys stepped up to farm the land. The young boys also had to drive their mother, Mary, into Omaha for necessities as she didn’t know how to drive.
After high school graduation, Charles enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany as a Neuropsychiatric Specialist. His family thinks he was chosen for this position due to his very calm demeanor and giving heart. After serving his 2 years in the Army, Charles came back home to Yutan and met his wife, Roberta in the neighboring town of Valley. They were married in 1958 in a small Catholic Church in Elkhorn.
Charles worked a few jobs before choosing a career. This involved running a printing press at Epsen Hillmer Graphics Company in downtown Omaha. He worked overnights and long hours for over 35 years. He retired when the company went out of business.
Charles was able to enjoy a long and purposeful retirement. This involved attending daily Mass at St. Robert’s, meeting friends for breakfast, traveling and reading the newspaper. He also enjoyed watching ABBA videos, tractor shows and listening to polka music. He especially enjoyed spending a great quantity of time with his beloved Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren.
A man of deep Catholic faith, Charles drew strength and guidance from his beliefs, which were a cornerstone of his life. He died after receiving the Last Rites and Apostolic Blessings which was a great comfort to him.
His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Rest in peace Charles. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne; brothers: Jack, Don, Bill, and Bob McEvoy.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; children: Patrick (Katy), Kathy (Neil) Sullivan, Tim (Katy), Andy (Lisa), Stephanie (Kevin) Gillen; grandchildren: Ryan, Sean, Brendan, Maureen, Colin, Patrick, Kienan, Katie, Brigid, Alana, LeeAnn, Frances, Willa, Illyanna, Gracie & Emma; great-grandchildren: Ellis, Rowen, August, Waylon, Torin, Molly, Merrin, Flynn, Jacob, Arabella, Luca, Rory, and Isla; he also loved his favorite nurses at Brookestone, especially Shela.
