Charles Mesershmidt
August 15, 1926 – July 17, 2024
Charles “Chet” Mesershmidt passed from this life on July 17, 2024, just short of his 98th birthday. Born in Omaha on August 15, 1926, to a family of nine brothers and sisters, Chet loved telling stories about his impressive life. At the age of 17, Chet enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Following the war, he graduated from Creighton University. Jeanette (Jan) Bullock became his wife on April 7, 1951, and they had one daughter. His career was spent in the insurance business, retiring from Central National Insurance Company in 1989.
He and Jan fished, curled, golfed, traveled, loved watching the Huskers and Creighton basketball, and spent a great deal of time with their grandchildren. He was the “favorite uncle” to many nieces and nephews and cherished them all. Golfing became his passion, and he had a recorded six holes in one. You could find him in his later years with his buddies on the golf course at Pacific Springs. His final wish came true with the birth of his great-granddaughter.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jan, and all his siblings. He is survived by his daughter Diane Johnson (Brad), grandchildren Greg (Ana), Christi, and Derek Franzen, great-granddaughter Gianna, nieces, nephews, and his special friend Darlene Rostetter, who was by his side for the last four years of his life.
