Charles R. “Chuck” Francis
March 25, 1938 – May 29, 2025
Born in Omaha, NE., grew up in Council Bluffs, IA.
Chuck graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1956, lettering in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He attended Peru State Teachers College in Peru, NE. excelling in basketball, baseball, and track, and winning The Swensen award as the outstanding athlete his senior year. In 1960, he received a bachelor’s degree in history and physical education, and in 1963, a master’s degree in history and political science from Oklahoma State.
Chuck returned to his hometown as a teacher and coach at the Junior High and then returned to Abraham Lincoln High School as the varsity basketball coach 1965-1969. Chuck moved to Hawaii as a coach and then attended Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA., serving as a Teaching Assistant and Assistant Freshman Basketball Coach while earning a second master’s degree in education administration and completed work on his Doctorate degree.
After this, he moved to Oregon where he served as the Athletic Director, Physical Education Department Chairman and Head Basketball coach at Southwest Oregon Community College from 1973 – 1977 where his team won a league championship and he was named Coach of the year. He left SWOC and moved to Dallas and was the Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at Dallas Christian College, Dallas, TX.
Chuck left the field of education and turned to the financial world and worked for 20 years as a successful financial advisor heading up his own independent agency. In 2009, he retired and returned to Omaha. He enjoyed retirement, as he travelled all over the world with his soul mate Myrt Anderson. Chuck developed a passion for Golf and became an avid golfer. After his coaching career, Chuck became an outstanding official in Basketball, Baseball, and Volleyball in Texas.
Preceded in death by parents, Gabriel S. and Rose A. Francis.
Survived by his spouse, Myrt Anderson, sisters Donna (Don) Schwertley and Kathy Nunnery, son Rhett C. Francis (Jill), daughter Tammy L. Hargett (Chris), grandchildren, Riley Francis, Reece Francis, Gavin Hargett.
