Cheryl J. McAndrews
May 16, 1944- May 9, 2024
Cheryl Joy McAndrews, 79, passed away on May 9, 2024, with her family by her side. Cheryl was born to Lawrence and Margaret Rumrey of Elgin, Nebraska. Cheryl was raised on the farm with her sister Marcy.
Cheryl attended College of St. Mary (Omaha) and obtained a degree in Elementary Education in 1965.
Cheryl met the love of her life, Tim, on St. Patrick’s Day in 1971. They were married on April 27, 1973, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Cheryl and Tim recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. They had their first child, Cara in 1974 followed by Chad in 1978 and Craig in 1984.
Cara was Cheryl’s best friend and there wasn’t a day that went by where they didn’t speak to each other. Cara married Clay in 1998 and Clay has been a constant and was always just one call away for 30 years.
Cheryl never missed a sporting event for Chad and Craig. She drove all over and was the biggest fan, although she was always the quiet one in the stands.
Cheryl spent 34 years as a 1st grade teacher in the Omaha Public School district before retiring in 1999.
Activities filled up a lot of her retirement, as she attended countless sporting events and recitals of her 6 grandchildren, who she loved deeply.
She was very dedicated to her Catholic faith and her family. Cheryl loved her crossword puzzles and her dog Nova. She was definitely a homebody and made the best monkey bread. She loved traditions and having a house full of family and friends, although she enjoyed the quiet so she could read while drinking a glass of wine.
Preceded in death by son, Chad T. McAndrews; parents, Lawrence and Margaret Rumery and sister Joy Rumery.
Survived by husband, Tim; children, Cara Seaman (Clay), Craig McAndrews (Kayla); 6 grandchildren; sister, Marcy Jones.
