Christopher Johnston

May 5, 1973 – November 15, 2022

Chris Johnston, age 49, of Bellevue NE, passed away on November 15, 2022 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Christopher Michael Johnston was born on May 5, 1973 to Carl and Evelyn Johnston in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the oldest and only boy of seven siblings . There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his sisters Tanya, Janae, Jasmine, Jessica, Jeana, and Jade.

He grew up in a very active and loving family. Many summers were spent on family trips with his dad, aunt Sue, uncle Bernie, uncle Bill (Patty), uncle John, and aunt Sharon (Jim). If he wasn’t with his dad, aunts, or uncles, he was with his grandma and grandpa Johnston, grandma and grandpa Moore, or his mom.

Shortly after completing school, he was introduced to Shannon Butcher (Hershey), and they were wed in December of 1994. They welcomed their first child, Gaberial Christopher, March 31, 1995. A year later, April 3, 1996, Catherine Maureen would come into this world making her presence known. December 4, 2000 they welcomed their third, and final child into this world, a son,  Christian Michael. Not long after, Chris and Shannon would go their separate ways.
In 2001, he took a job loading furniture. Little did he know that he would end up dedicating 20+ years to that company, Rent-A-Center. He worked in many stores and quite a few states. He formed bonds, friendships, and a family throughout his years there.

March 3, 2007 Chris met Melissa after a mutual friend introduced them. By April of that same year, they were officially a couple. After dating for what seemed like forever, his words, February 10, 2013, Chris and Melissa would marry, remaining married until his passing. Chris became close to  Melissa’s family, as if they had always been family. Wayne and Kathy became mom and dad. Josh (Brittany), Mandy (Jason), Kari, Barbara, Robert, Zach, and Bobbie became brothers and sisters. Chris became uncle Chris, to more nieces and nephews than there’s space to name. But he loved them all unconditionally and without bias. He was loved and accepted without end.

August 10, 2019 he stood as Gaberial exchanged vows and added another Johnston to the family, Alyssa, which he is known for saying is his “favorite daughter-in-law.” Several  months later, January 6, 2020, at 4:10 a.m., Brantley Christopher made his grand appearance into this world. Not only taking part of his papa’s name but also a huge part of his heart. The title suited him perfectly, there has never been a better papa.

Although he wouldn’t agree, Chris made this world a better place simply by being in it. He made the most of the life that God gave him and was always so grateful for what he was given. Chris truly was a friend to all. He will be remembered for his compassion, kindness, generosity, his love and dedication to family, his positive attitude, devotion to God, and his eyebrow raise at everything. The loss of Chris will be felt near and far, as he’s touched the lives of many. He will definitely be missed but never forgotten.

Survived by wife, Melissa; sons, Gaberial (Alyssa) and Christian; daughter, Catherine; grandson, Brantley; parents, Carl (Kim) Johnston, Evelyn Mosley; sisters: Tanya (Nathaniel), Janae, Jasmine (Tom), Jessica, Jeana, and Jade; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
