Clarice Louise Utterback was born on October 18, 1917 to Eric Walfred and Elsie Matilda (Swanson) Carlson.  She attended Oakdale Grade School and graduated from Central High School. She completed a correspondence secretarial course after high school.

Love blossomed when she met Curtis Utterback, who lived next door to her parents’ acreage at 93rd & “F” Streets.  They married on June 26, 1937.  They later purchased this acreage (where Clarice was born) and raised their three children there.  Curt and Clarice moved to 55th & Woolworth in 1963, and Clarice moved to the 153rd & Dodge area in 1996.  She had lived at Brookestone Village nursing home since July of 2015.

Clarice was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in South Omaha. Since 1935 she was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the LCW and where she enjoyed the friendships of many other Bethel members over the years.

Clarice and Curt worked hard on their acreage, as well as working other full-time jobs.  Clarice worked at Baldwin and Dellen Laboratories as supervisor of packaging and sterilizing departments until she retired.

Clarice was an avid doll collector and was a member of the Federated Doll Club and Omaha Doll Club.  She and Curt were also involved in square dancing and round dancing and instructing for several years and were instrumental in organizing the Mixmasters’ Square Dance Club.

Clarice was preceded in death by her husband, Curt; son, Gene; parents, Eric and Elsie Carlson and brother, Arvid. She is survived by daughter, Darlene Christian and her husband, Keith; son, David, and daughter-in-law, Arlene Utterback; five grandchildren: Bradley Utterback (wife, Kathy); Michael Utterback, Jeffrey Utterback (wife, Elsie), Shannon Sober (husband, Vic), and Jennifer Christian; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; dear friends.

Clarice celebrated her 100th birthday in October of 2017.  She was very loved and will be missed by all her family and friends.

My prayers are with the Utterback family. I will miss Grandma Clarice’s smiling kids nd face when I come to Omaha to visit. Brad I am so very sorry for the loss of your Grandmother. She was a very sweet caring woman with a heart of gold. I know she will be missed but what a long wonderful life she lived on this earth and now she is with her Heavenly Father and so very many relatives and friends. God bless you all.

I was a member of Clarice’s doll club, and remember her fondly. She was very generous, sweet and helpful, especially to those of us who were new to collecting. I’m glad that such a dear person lived so many years in which to enjoy her family and many friends. I know she will be missed.
