Colleen (Martin) Mehring

Colleen (Martin) Mehring, age 81, of Pisgah, Iowa passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Colleen was born August 13, 1931 to Howard and Beatrice (Coate) Nuzum in Moorhead, Iowa. She attended Moorhead Country School. Being one of the older siblings in her family she was always helping on the farm and taking care of her brothers and sisters. As her mother grew older she was always helping her out with chores at home and planting flowers for her. Colleen married Earl Martin August 12, 1949. Earl passed away January 15, 1999. On October 18, 2003 Colleen married Albert Mehring in Pisgah, Iowa. Colleen cooked for seven years at Larsen’s Café in Dunlap, Iowa, and then at Old Home Café in Pisgah, Iowa for seventeen years. She loved gardening, flowers, and was an exceptional cook. Colleen enjoyed playing cards with her neighborly card club, farming, morel mushroom hunting, dancing, and doing birthday parties for her grandchildren. In the years spent with Al, they enjoyed camping, fishing, and listening to gospel and country music. She was even an Iowa Hawkeye fan as that was Al’s favorite team. Colleen loved her family and spending time with all of them, always putting everyone before herself. Colleen survived many life and death experiences over the years. She was always a fighter, but her nine lives ran out and she passed away in the helicopter, close to heaven and her other loved ones. No more suffering. Colleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl; son: David Martin; grandchildren: Amy Weber, and Randy Weber; great grandson: Tyler Weber; brothers: Gary, Leo, and Kenneth; sister: Shirley; and step-daughter: Patricia Favor. Survivors include her husband Albert Mehring of Pisgah, Iowa; Children: Carolyn Boyce of Dunlap, Iowa, Debra Hardy and special friend Robert Wendt of Dunlap, Iowa, Daniel Martin and wife Pam of Denison, Iowa, Marsha Marth and husband Kenneth of Ricketts, Iowa, Judy Blunk and husband Terry of Kiron, Iowa, and Rhonda Sears and husband Michael of Missouri Valley, Iowa; step daughters: Judy Nepper of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Linda Krugmen of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter in law: Kathy Skelton and husband Bob; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren and three step great great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Bonita and husband William Martin of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Robert and wife Nettie Nuzum of Woodbine, Iowa, Alan (Jerry) and wife Joyce Nuzum of Alma, Wisconsin, Jack and wife Shirley Nuzum of Williston, North Dakota, Darlene and husband Wilbur Moore of Moorhead, Iowa, Jo Ann Runyan of Omaha, Nebraska, Carol Sue Nuzum of Sioux City, Iowa, Barbara Hargroves and husband Rex of Holstein, Iowa, Dale Nuzum of Williston, North Dakota, Joyce and husband Gary Williams of Merrill, Iowa, Patricia and husband Ronnie Johnson of Paulina, Iowa and Diane Oliver and special friend Bob of LaVerne, Minnesota and many close family and friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the luncheon at 2:00p.m. at the Onawa Cemetery in Onawa, Iowa.
