Grant H. Everett, Colonel USAF, Retired

Grant Hatch Everett, Col. USAF (Ret)

March 20, 1939 – September 17, 2024

Colonel (06) Grant Hatch Everett, aged 85, passed away peacefully on Sep 17th, in Omaha, NE.  Born on March 20, 1939, in Los Angeles, CA, to Edward and Harriet Everett, Grant loved the Lord and his family.   Grant was preceded in death by Sunny, his wife of 60 years; his parents, Edward and Harriet Everett; and his brothers, Ted and Al. He is survived by his two daughters, Laura Franks (husband, Terry) and Amy Kendall (husband, Pete); eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren (who he was known as Pampa).

Grant grew up in Palo Alto, California, where he enlisted in the US Air Force. During his military travels, he met the love of his life, Sunny Sue, from Houston, Texas.   Grant transitioned from enlisted to an Officer through hard work and determination.  He attended night school, receiving his master’s degree from Stanford University. As a B52 navigator, he flew many missions during the Vietnam War. Grant retired from the Air Force in 1987 as a senior Officer at Offutt Air Force Base. After his successful military career, he led a software development company in Bellevue, NE.   Retiring for a second time in 1998, Grant served on several boards and spent his time enjoying faith, family, golf, and football.

In his final days, Grant had many visitors. The words spoken over him by those closest, may be the best tribute to his life.

From most, he was an encourager and kind person who was always willing to give.

From his golfing buddies, he was a good friend and a loyal partner!

From his Military comrades, he was a great mentor and leader!

From his football buddies, he never missed a game!

From his prayer friends, he was faithful, bold, and unashamed.

From His grandchildren, he was supportive and loving (many tears as grandkids will miss his love and support).

From his sons-in-law, he was a source of wisdom!

From his daughters, he was a great friend, a listening ear, a supportive father, and a deep love.

From his wife, he was a rock and support, the love of his life.

From his Father in Heaven, he was a faithful servant! His most profound love.

Grant was bold, unashamed, and always willing to share his faith.    He will be missed!

Grant was my first cousin. He was always so kind to me even though I was five years younger. When he was in the Air Force and based in California I always enjoyed spending time with him and Sunny. Grant will be missed by family and friends. He is now with our Lord and Sunny. Rest in peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Grant’s family. Grant and his wife were beautiful thoughtful
caring people who will truly be missed. I had a very serious surgery five years ago; I woke
up while still in the hospital, Ms Sunny and Mr Grant were standing by
my bedside smiling and giving me encouragement, I didn’t even know them that well. I will never forget their kindness, My wife and I will truly miss them both. Again; Mr Grant was such a wonderful man and I know for sure that he’s in heaven rejoicing and praising God with his beautiful wife.

Grant and Sunny are so dear to my heart. They were both a great example of how to live a surrendered live in Christ. I recall Grant attending 6am prayer with us early risers. What a blessing it was to be in prayer with such a great Prayer Warrior. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of this amazing man. I think God for them both.

I met Grant on the Skyline Board of Directors. We couldn’t have had a more caring person chairing a retirement home for the elderly. He was a great and compassioned leader always thinking and caring in the best interests of the residents. God Bless.

My heart aches for Laure, Amy, and their families. Grant & Sunny were more than dear friends. I’ve known them for 60+ years as friends to my father, mother, and me; big brother, advisor, & mentor in early adult life (Grant administered the oath I happily gave when he commissioned me in 1980); surrogate parents to Karen & me; exemplary Christian example to us all.

Grant was one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever known. We aspire to have a life so well lived.
