Connie Louise (Hill) Tiller
Aug 15, 1949 – Jan 6, 2017
Avid reader and writer of mysteries and poetry, excellent cook, adequate seamstress, gift-wrap guru, coupon queen, choir member and soloist, loving and loyal and generous daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend: these are just a few of the traits of Connie Louise Tiller.
Connie was born on August 15, 1949, to Homer H. and Thelma J. Hill, and left this earthly home for a far better one on January 6, 2017.
Connie grew up in Midwest City and Jones, Oklahoma. She graduated in 1967 from Jones High School. She was salutatorian of her class, winning the American Legion Award, a Masonic Scholarship, and an ACT scholarship which she used to attend Oklahoma Baptist University. While there, she served as an officer in the Orion Social Club, Sigma Tau Delta (honors fraternity in English), Alpha Mu Gamma (honors fraternity in Spanish), the Student Education Association, and Kappa Delta Pi (honors fraternity in education). She received the James Newton Owens Spanish award and graduated cum laude in 1971. Connie earned her Master’s Degree (magna cum laude) in English from the University of Oklahoma in 1976. Her teaching career spanned 38 years, from 1971 to 2009, starting in Kansas and Oklahoma, then moving to Omaha, Nebraska, where she taught English for 28 years at Millard South High School and at Metropolitan Community College and in the teacher education program at Peru State College.
Connie loved teaching and loved her students and working with Pep Club, cheerleaders, Spanish Club, as speech and drama coach, with forensic students, and as sponsor of National Honor Society. She also loved the Lord, and spent her life singing in the choir and as a soloist, playing piano, cooking, teaching and serving as an elder in her home churches as long as she was able. She was currently a member of Faith Christian Church. Her greatest pride, though, was in her two children, Zach and Shannon, and her amazing granddaughter, Story.
Connie was predeceased by her father and mother, Homer H. and Thelma J. Hill; beloved cousin, Geri Stevens. She is survived by son, Zachary Tiller of Omaha; daughter, Shannon Keffer and husband, Chad; granddaughter, Story Rae Keffer, all of Gretna, Nebraska; sister, Tammie Morgan and husband, Bill, of Oklahoma City; nieces, Morgan Scott and husband, Wes, of Norman, OK and Lauren Morgan of Houston, TX; ex-husband, Dr. David H. She is also survived by her “second family”: Anthony, Kim, Mackenzie and Ben Madrigal of Omaha; many beloved extended family members, particularly her cousins and partners in crime, Barbara Ryan and Pat Reimer; as well as a host of beloved friends across Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska. Finally, she is survived by her many students who, along with her children and grandchild, are her legacy.
The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 13th, from 6pm to 8pm at the Bel Air Chapel. SERVICES Saturday, Jan. 14th at 10am at Faith Christian Church, 2201 S. 132nd St., followed by GRAVESIDE SERVICE at Mount Hope Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
