Cory David Schall was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to James and Judy Schall on June 27, 1989.  He moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1990, where he grew up and lived there for 14 years before moving with his family to Gretna, Nebraska in 2004.  He graduated from Gretna High School in 2007.
After high school Cory continued his education and attended The University of Nebraska at Omaha where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Journalism.  He worked as an Ad Operations Specialist at Yahoo!

Cory was engaged to the love of his life, Claire McKay on June 4, 2021.

Cory was called from this life unexpectedly on March 19, 2022.  Although his earthly life was cut short, he built lasting memories and friendships along the way.  Cory loved spending time with family, friends, and especially his fiancée, Claire.  They were planning their wedding for April 9th of this year.  Cory had a love of life, and his smile and jokes could light up a room.  He could usually be found catching you up on the latest car race either Indycar, NASCAR, or Formula One.  Cory enjoyed being outdoors: riding bikes, golfing with his buddies and any kind of water sports whether it was swimming, paddle boarding, boating, waterskiing, wakeboarding or taking the Sea-Doo out for a spin on the lake.

When Cory was young, he picked up bowling and discovered he had a talent for the sport.  At the age of five he won bowler of the year for his age group. He continued with the sport and bowled on the high school team.  Cory also enjoyed taking walks with Claire and her dog, Tuggs, especially on the MoPac trail over the Platte River.  Cory and Claire always enjoyed planning and living their adventures.  He loved Omaha Mavericks Hockey and anything Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Cory treasured his yearly trip to Indianapolis for the Indy 500 with his brother, Chris.  During the summer, he could be found on the boat dock at Table Rock Lake enjoying time with family

He was preceded in death by grandparents, John and Dorothy Schall and Gene and Dorothy Hlavka; aunt, Janet Bower.  Cory is survived by his loving fiancée, Claire McKay; parents, James and Judy Schall; brother, Christopher (Heather); nephew, Carver; niece, Hadley; uncles, aunts, and cousins; McKay family; numerous friends and family left to cherish his memories.

Cory touched so many lives.  He will be forever remembered in our hearts.

I’m at a loss…. I’m thankful for the opportunity to have met Cory and become such good friends over the years. He was such a kind and caring man, someone we should all strive to be. His demeanor was something I wish I could emulate, he was one of the most appreciative human I’ve had the chance meet. If we could all just be more like Cory our world would be such a better place. Rest In peace, you truly will be missed.

In just a short time, Cory had become a part of the Yahoo family. Our hearts are broken. Through the tears and questioning and disbelief that the news of his passing brought yesterday, I was fortunate to get to smile at some of my last slack messages with Cory. A colleague put it perfectly: Cory was a ray of light. Praying that his loved ones continue to feel his ray of light from on high.

Cory was a guy who never had a bad day. In the short few years, I have had the good fortune of knowing Cory, I came to know him for leading a life of gratitude and positivity. He brought so much light to my life and so many others in our Sojern family. I am incredibly grateful to have known him and call him my friend.

Jim and Judy, Claire, Chris, and Heather – I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Know that Cory will never be forgotten.

Jim, Judy & Chris, Your Cory was everything a young man should be. I’m so happy that he found and had great joy and happiness in his life. None of this makes any sense to me right now and I imagine you are just trying to get through each day. Know that Betsy and I have love in our hearts for Cory and thought of him often over the past 4 years. We will never forget him and will keep him in our prayers. Bill& Betsy
