Cy E. Moore

MOORE, Cy E., Oct 21, 1923 – Sep 1, 2011. Age 87; died at Brookestone Village in Omaha. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Cy was the son of Calvin Arthur Moore and Jennie Isabel Buttenhoff Moore. He was born in Jefferson, Iowa on October 21, 1923 and in 1941 graduated from Scranton High School, where he was active in sports, especially football and baseball. Cy moved to Carroll, Iowa and there met and married the love of his life, Geneva Winnike Moore on October 30, 1946. In 1950 they moved to Omaha, where Cy owned and operated Cy Moore’s Orthopedic Shoe Service, Inc. until his retirement. He was a member of the Omaha Cosmopolitan Club; he enjoyed helping with their sponsorship of teams in the College World Series and served as president in 1991. Cy was a loyal Creighton Blue Jays Jaybacker for 40 years. He was also an active member of the Prescription Footwear Association. Cy and Geneva enjoyed traveling and playing Bridge. Cy loved volunteering at Bergan Mercy Hospital for 25 years and ushering for 40-plus years at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Cy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Geneva; 2 daughters: Joan Scott and husband Kelly, Mary Moore Salem and husband Tom; two granddaughters: Jennifer McDaniel and husband Brian, Kristin Williams and husband Jeremy; 2 stepgrandchildren: Laura Salem and husband Tom Kolbe, Jeff and Renee Salem; 4 great-grandsons: Zachary McDaniel, Lucas McDaniel, Blake Williams, and Dylan Williams; 4 stepgreat-grandchildren: Judd Salem, Isabella Salem, Colen Salem, and Jack Salem; brothers, Lewis and Virgil. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Cy’s family expresses special thanks to the loving staff of Brookestone Village for their tender care of Dad these last months. The family will receive friends Monday, 5pm to 7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES Tuesday, 9:30am, West Center Chapel to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church for MASS at 10am. Memorials are suggested to St. Robert Bellarmine Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
