Dagmar Emilie Srb

April 19, 1930- August 25, 2023

Dagmar Emilie Srb, our vivacious, witty, compassionate and fashionista mother, passed away on August 25, 2023, at the age of 93, after a long series of illnesses; bravely fighting till the end.   She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was adopted by Bertha and Albert Cadek, both Czech immigrants.  The family settled in Omaha, NE, where they ran a successful pasta business for many years.  Although she couldn’t speak English when she started school, she soon thrived and succeeded, being named an outstanding student by the Omaha Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Always a hard worker, she went to summer school, graduated a year, early and began her working career in various jobs until she was hired by Swift and Company, where she was employed as an office worker until 1968.

She married Rudy Srb, a musician and teacher, in 1950.  They had three children:  Linda, Scott, and Kandi.  She was a wonderful mother and wife.

She was exceptionally talented and fascinated with fashion and interior design, and could find bargains, which at times were almost more important than the item.  Anyone who knew her commented on what an eye she had for clothing, and for dressing superbly, no matter her age. Mom loved to shop, and especially enjoyed helping others look for just the right outfit.

She also was an accomplished designer and seamstress, having sewed countless stunning figure skating outfits. Using two white leotards, dyeing them and cutting one for the skirt, she created unique and completely stretchable skating outfits at a time before polyester and spandex.  Her creations were greatly admired.

Mom resumed working in the early 1980s, and in the late 1980s she began working for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, where she thrived in a challenging but rewarding environment.  She truly loved helping all the people with whom she came into contact and excelled at facilitating their journey toward a better life.   She continued working until she was 80 years old and would have continued working if physical infirmities had not deterred her.

She is predeceased by her husband, Rudy; parents, Bertha and Albert Cadek; and her brother, Milton. She is survived by her children: Linda Nichols (Doug), Scott Srb (LeAnne), and Kandi Srb Vampola (Ron); grandson, Logan; and granddaughters, Kaylee and Kali. In addition, she leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Kathy and Charlene Srb; and brother-in-law, John Stirek; countless nephews and nieces, and many treasured friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Joslyn Castle, 3902 Davenport St., on Saturday, November 4, 2023, starting at 1 p.m. with a Service at 2 p.m.  Private interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Nebraska Humane Society, Planned Parenthood North Central States, or the Family.
