Daniel J. Barna, age 61years, employed by UNMC as a Maintenance Tech IV.  Dan enjoyed the outdoors; specifically the sport of hunting, fishing, trap and skeet shooting.  He also enjoyed swimming and holding down a raft while soaking up the sunshine.  Dan enjoyed movies and often quoted some of the most famous lines.

Dan enjoyed many avenues of cooking; he enjoyed smoking brisket and pork as well as grilling.  He loved preparing many of our traditional family dishes and was also a fantastic baker making what he referred to as “fat girl friendly” desserts.  Dan enjoying spending time with family and was known for offering free butt whoopings to his nieces and nephews.  More than anything Dan was a very spiritual person and devoted himself to the Lord.

Sorry and shocked to hear of Dan’s passing. He was my husband’s best friend and best man. Kreg would always have a grin on his face when he spoke of his adventures with Dan. They loved to hunt, camp, and fish together. I can’t imagine what God has Dan doing in heaven, but I bet he is with Kreg working on a project.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to all of Dan’s family and friends. I had the pleasure of working with him at UNMC. I enjoyed chatting with him when he would call or stop by my desk. He always called me Mrs. Scheffel (even in emails!) One time when I first met him, he told me he was GUDA (or GUDAT?) I asked “what is that?” Dan said “Greatest Uncle Dan of All (or All Times?)” That stuck with me and I always was going to ask him again. I wish I had, but no matter. He was a good guy and I bet he was the Greatest Uncle Dan. He will be missed. I wish I could have attended the visitation and funeral but was pleased I was able to watch funeral on line. May your memories of Dan comfort you today and all the days to come.
