Daniel B. Mohatt was born in Omaha, NE on May 26, 1957.  Because of his developmental disabilities and mental retardation, Dan lived at home and was cared for by his mom and dad, who could not bring themselves to place him in one of the overcrowded institutions of the time.  They worked with and helped establish GOARC, the Greater Omaha Association for Retarded Citizens, which became the Arc of Omaha and the Ollie Webb Center, improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities.  Our family spent many hours selling bottles of honey on the annual Honey Sunday to support these causes.

In 1998 or thereabouts, Dan was accepted into an ENCOR group home and was able to live with three or four other residents in a home-like setting with 24-hour care and a caring staff.  Mom and Dad continued to pick Danny up and bring him home for weekends, and Dan loved to go for rides with our family and get French fries.  Mom passed in 2007 and Dad in 2008; both are greatly missed by the family.  In November of 2016, due to health issues, Dan was moved to Maple Crest Care Center where he received great care; however, his health continued to decline and he made many trips to the hospital.

The family would like to recognize and thank the many caregivers and support staff who helped Danny during his lifetime.

I was always touched by the love and care Danny received from Uncle Raymond and Aunt Kathleen and his brothers. What a great reunion in heaven now that Danny is not hindered by his disabilities!

You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Danny was so lucky to have such a wonderful, loving family. I remember how Uncle Raymond and Aunt Kathleen loved him so much and took such good care of him.

I worked with Dan, as we called him, at Encor’s respite group home for several years back in the 1980’s. I will never forget the time I got one of his very special deeply felt smiles. He was one of my all-time favorite visitors. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Mike, Tim, Cheri, Pat and Pam, all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Not a purer soul in our family than Danny’s… I can only imagine how happy Uncle Raymond and Aunt Kathy are to be together with him again… My heart goes out to all of you. Love and prayers are being sent your way.
