Daniel Dewey Jewell

JEWELL, Daniel Dewey Oct 20, 1922 – May 24, 2013 Mr. Jewell was born in Spalding, Nebraska on October 20, 1922. He attended the University of Nebraska and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He joined the Navy in 1942, completing Officer Training in Chicago at Midshipman’s School. He was assigned to the European Theatre and took part in the Invasion of Normandy on D-Day. Upon returning from his service in the Navy, he graduated with his Juris Doctorate degree from University of Nebraska Law School in 1949. He was licensed to practice in all Nebraska Courts, the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. He was a member of the American Bar Association and the Nebraska State Bar Association, serving as President during the years of 1977 and 1978. Mr. Jewell was a member of the International Association of Insurance Counsel, the Federation of Insurance Counsel, and the International Society of Barristers. He was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a group of national trial lawyers who specialize in trial work. Since 1973, Mr. Jewell had been a member of the Nebraska State Bar Commission and was involved in writing and administering the bar examination. Mr. Jewell was listed in the Personal Litigation section of the book, “The Best Lawyers in America” from 1987, when it was first published, until 1994. Mr. Jewell practiced in various areas of the law, including wills and estates, general trial practice with an emphasis on personal injury and property damage litigation, business litigation, and worker’s compensation. He was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer who loved to share his passion with his friends and family. He was never afraid to express his opinion, accompanied by his quick wit and unique sense of humor. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Preceded in death by parents, Dewey and Christina Jewell. Survived by wife, Lorene Klug Jewell of Omaha; daughters, Michelle M. Jewell of Omaha and Danielle D. Jewell of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; son, Richard F. Klug of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; grandsons, Dr. Brandon J. Tilts and wife, Dr. Dawn M. Tilts of Flagstaff, Arizona, Zachary Daniel Tilts of Houston, Texas; granddaughters, Shelby S. Tilts, Jacqueline F. Drown and husband Scott, all of Omaha. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, June 6th (the 69th anniversary of D-day) at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Norfolk, NE. Interment, Hillcrest Cemetery in Norfolk, Nebraska with military honors by VFW Post 1644. Following interment, a luncheon will be served by the Women of Trinity at the Trinity Episcopal Church Parish Hall. Memorials are suggested to Snowball Express, an organization benefiting children of fallen military, www.snowballexpress.org; or to VFW Post 1644 in Norfolk Nebraska.
