Daniel Joseph Matcha
April 16, 1958- June 7, 2024
Daniel Joseph Matcha was born on April 16, 1958, to Louis and Mary Matcha in Omaha, Nebraska. He had one twin sister named Debbie. He was a graduate of Bryan High and studied Machine Tool Technology at SCC – Milford. He put his talents and education to use as a machinist at Burlington Northern Railroad for 20 years. After retiring from the railroad, Dan worked as the assistant superintendent at the Yankton County Highway Department for 5 years. Next, Dan pursued his dream of owning his own business and started an air compressor repair company. He eventually expanded the business to include small engine and equipment repair.
Dan and Nancy married in 1996 and made their home in Omaha, Nebraska. In 2006, they moved to Yankton, South Dakota, where they spent the next 17 years. The move to Yankton proved to be perfect, and they had a great house to take care of their fathers – Joe and Lou. Dan took a strong role caring for both fathers in their later years.
Dan enjoyed music of all kinds. He and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed golfing together, attending plays at the theater and the symphony. They were members of the Springfield, SD, golf course and the Deer Run golf course in Hinton, IA. He loved golfing with his son, Ryan, in Okoboji. He was a season ticket holder at the Omaha and Sioux City symphony. Dan was happiest in his garage fixing, repairing, and creating. Dan also enjoyed boating, having bought his first boat at the age of 18. This love continued on for 3 boats and 50 years!
Dan enjoyed time with his family. He enjoyed traveling to Omaha to see his grandson, River Louis. He was so proud of his son, Ryan and daughter-in-law Jeana. He couldn’t help but brag about their accomplishments to family and friends. He loved spending time with his wife, Nancy – they enjoyed doing things together including golfing, seeing plays, boating, and just enjoying every moment together.
Dan was a loving husband, caring father, brother, friend, and son. He was funny and made friends easily. He never hesitated to say I love you. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
