Danna M. Scott

Danna M. Scott

May 25, 1964 – August 18, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Danna Marie Scott of Gretna, Nebraska, on August 18, 2023. After a 7 year battle with stage 4 breast cancer, Danna gained her angel wings, surrounded by the people she loved most.

Danna was born May 25, 1964, to Danny and Mary Scott in Omaha, NE. She began her life as a premature baby, and was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy. The doctors predicted that she would likely not survive past the age of five, and if so, she would not progress beyond the intellect of a 6 year old. Being the fighter that she is, Danna proved them wrong on both accounts by a long shot.

She spent the early years of her life living on a farm in Bridgewater, IA, then later lived in Minden, NE, and Nebraska City, NE. She graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1983, and began her life in the workforce.

After another move to Lincoln, NE, she moved into her own apartment at age 30. Danna got a job all on her own at HyVee in Lincoln in 1999, where she would end up staying for 22 years. She was loved by so many customers and employees, and even through her tough days she greeted everyone with a smile. She walked to and from work most everyday and hardly missed a day. After working through the first 5 years of cancer treatment, in 2021 her body didn’t give her any other choice but to retire.

After retirement, and having lost her father to a sudden and unexpected heart attack in September of 2020, it made sense for her and her mother to live together. After 6 months together in Lincoln, they made the decision to move to Gretna, NE to be closer to family.

Danna had an extreme love for cats. She had shared her apartment with her cat “Chubbs”, who she adored. Not only did she love life and cats, she loved her family so much. Her presence lit up a room, along with her witty personality. She was such a fighter! Danna didn’t lose any battles, she fought to the very end, and she has been an inspiration to us all throughout her life.

Danna was preceded in death by her grandparents, Daryl and Mildred Scott, and Don and Myrtle Diers; father, Dan Scott; aunt, Pat Kerkhoff Scott; sister-in-law, Angie Scott; and cousin Jodi Scott.

She will be dearly missed by her mother, Mary Scott; sister, Lana Washburn; brother, Kyle Scott; nephews, Devon Draeger (Jamie Draeger) and Brandon Draeger; great nephew, Davon Draeger; great niece, Ariel Draeger; great nephew, Dreyden Draeger; great nephew, Dane Draeger; great niece, Jayla Draeger; and several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service is at 11:00 a.m., Sat., Aug. 26, 2023, at

Standing Stone Bible Church

321 S HWY 6

Gretna, NE 68028

Luncheon to follow at the church.

No graveside service is immediately planned. She will be laid to rest at Garner Township Cemetery in Bridgewater, IA at a later date.

Memorials will be directed by the family.
