Dante A. Vicario

August 19, 1931 – November 9, 2020

 

Dante Americo Vicario was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 19, 1931 to Rose Caniglia and Steve A. Vicario.  He and his mother later moved to Omaha, Nebraska to live with her family and Dante was raised in Rose’s family home on 10th street across from the Union Pacific and Burlington railroad depots.

Dante attended Technical High School through the eleventh grade and then began working at the Burlington railroad.  In 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force and was a mechanic on the Peacemaker Nuclear Aircraft (B-36) during the cold war years.  He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent in 1955.

In 1956 he met and married Janet Y. Wilhelmy in Omaha where they lived for 57 years.  After the service Dante worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and retired after 35 years.

Dante has three children: Dante Vicario Jr., Danelle Daubendiek (Randy) and Philip Vicario (Cindy); 5 grandchildren: Courtney, Tarra, Jocelyn, Ryan and Ashley; and several great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by mother, Rose Caniglia.

Survived by wife of 57 years, Janet; children: Dante Vicario Jr., Danelle Daubendiek (Randy), Philip Vicario (Cindy); grandchildren: Courtney, Tarra, Jocelyn, Ryan and Ashley; several great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Friday, November 13th, from 5pm to 7pm, at the West Center Chapel.  FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, November 14th, 11am, West Center Chapel.  INTERMENT: Calvary Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

    We are so sorry to hear of Dads passing! As my first, first cousin I looked up to him and enjoyed being with him!!! He will be missed!
