Darrel was dedicated to his faith, and to St. Cecilia Cathedral. I visited with him many times at St. Cecilia, and he shared many experiences about his recent life, and his relationship with the Newman Center and its leadership in Lincoln during his college years. I found him to be genuinely concerned about the future of this country, to the unborn, and to his church. Although not an overtly social man, he was always generous to St. Cecilia. You may never have spoken to him, but know he has always been a friend to the faithful at St. Cecilia.
Darrel was a faithful and admired pro-life warrior whose presence will surely be missed. I can imagine that he had a multitude of angels and saints welcoming him home to heaven. Rest in peace, my friend.
Darrel was very active in the pro-life movement in the Omaha area, including prayer and witness at local abortion mills, often multiple times a week. He volunteered in the office at Nebraskans Embracing Life, worked events, and protested the killing of innocent children in the womb from conception, seeking justice for the unborn.
Darrel attended the 7am daily mass at St Cecilia’s Church, practiced his faith under the authority and truth of the Church. He was active on the St Cecilia’s pro-life committee with friend Steve Zach, and loved to “man the booth” at the annual festival, among other activities.
I am encouraged that Darrel was angelic in his last days- tranquil, concerned for others, grateful, and content. His patient, persevering witness to the end, inspired many, with a far reaching impact known only in Eternity. -David Zebolsky
