David A. Rismiller

March 15, 1936 – August 22, 2022

Of Omaha, Nebraska and Naples, Florida.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Arthur Paul William Rismiller and Dorothy Molones Rismiller; sister, Karen Rismiller Clay.  He is survived by his wife, Anne; children, Cynthia “Cindy” Rismiller and David Rismiller, Jr.; three grandchildren: Charlotte, Adam, and Theodore Hedican.

Mr. Rismiller served as Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of FirsTier Financial, Inc. and of FirsTier Bank, N.A., Omaha. He was also Chairman of FirsTier Bank, N.A., Lincoln, and served as director of all three organizations. Prior to joining FirsTier Financial on May 2, 1988, he enjoyed a long association with Commerce Bank of Kansas City, N.A., joining the Bank as Senior Vice President in February of 1974. He was elected a Director of the Bank in October 1975 and was named President in January 1979.  He served as the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Tenth District’s representative on the Federal Advisory Counsel. He was affiliated with numerous charitable and business organizations in Kansas City, Omaha, and Naples. He was a director of Duncan Aviation, a Governor and Treasurer of the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, Director and Chairman of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, Director of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer and Governor of Joslyn Art Museum, Director of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, and was President of the Forum Club of Southwest Florida, among others.

Mr. Rismiller’s greatest affiliation was to his alma mater, The Ohio State University. He served on The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and was a lifetime director of The Ohio State University Foundation. He received the 2000 Ohio State University Fisher College of Business Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2002/2003, he established the David A. Rismiller Professorship in Business at Fisher College, and in 2008 established an endowed Chair in Finance at Fisher College. In 2009 he received the Foundation’s Gerlach Award and the Alumnus Award from The Ohio State University. He was an avid Buckeyes football fan.

Mr. Rismiller attained the coveted rank of Eagle Scout in his adolescence. With a Direct Commission, Mr. Rismiller served in the Air National Guard. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and was a graduate of Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

Family will receive friends Sunday, August 28, 2022, 4pm to 6pm at the West Center Chapel.  FUNERAL: Monday, August 29, 2022, 11am at the West Center Chapel.  Private Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Ohio State University Foundation University Square North, 14 E. 15th Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43201; or to Joslyn Art Museum.

    Our deepest condolences and prayers. David was incredibly supportive and thoughtful in everything he did. His love for Anne was clear and they made a team that made every minute spent with them special. We will miss David greatly on a very personal level and keep Anne in our thoughts and prayers.
