David Anthony Francl

December 14, 1966 – April 7, 2024

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of David Anthony Francl, born December 14, 1966, to Carol and Edward Francl.  Dave’s earthly journey ended on April 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and unwavering spirit.  From his upbringing in the close-knit Westgate neighborhood, Dave’s boyhood was marked by the enduring friendships he forged.  As a proud alumnus of Creighton Prep, he celebrated the traditions and bonds formed during his high school years.  His loyalty to the Alabama Crimson Tide football team was a testament to his father’s Legacy, as Ed loved Paul “Bear” Bryant.  Throughout his life, Dave faced challenges with unwavering determination, tracing his resilience to his teenage battle with scoliosis.  His belief in doing the right thing, extending kindness to others, and honoring commitments, shaped his character.  In 1994, Dave found the love of his life, Stephanie. Their love for each other and their family was the foundation of his life, with whom he shared 29 years of love and devotion.  He adored his two daughters, Emma and Ella, and cherished his role as a stay-at-home father. His faith was a cornerstone in his life, guiding his membership in St. Wenceslaus Parish.  Dave’s passions extended far and wide, from Alabama football and Creighton “Jays” basketball to golf, horseracing, and the College World Series.  With each hobby, he cultivated communities of friends who shared his enthusiasm.  He had a special affinity for his yard, transforming it into a sanctuary he was so proud of.

His enthusiasm for life and his ability to bring people together left an indelible mark on the hearts of the family and friends that he loved so dearly.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Stephanie; daughters, Emma and Ella; mother, Carol; brother, Mike (Susan); sister, Diane (Gary) Tichota; mother-in-law, Ruth Gray; father-in-law, Michael Gray; sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Lance Brown; 7 nieces and nephews: Sophie, Jack, Grace, Beck, Emily, Elliott and Eva Jean.  He was preceded in death by father, Edward.

What a good man and friend Dave was from our days at Kearney State and being reunited after I moved to Omaha a half dozen years ago. Dave is a mainstay of my thoughts and I admired his infectious laugh and smile with him and when just thinking about him or seeing his name. He is a champion.

Deepest sympathy to Steph, Emma, and Ella. Such a tremendous loss of a great man, and his love for his family had no bounds. We’ve only known Dave since around 2006 but will never forget our travels with him during March Madness to Las Vegas. Our early morning rise to steak our claim to the best seats in the sports book, and dinner at his favorite place Emeril Lagasse Delmonico’s Strakhouse. I’ll truly miss my friendship of conversations, talking sports, and family. He always wanted to know what was going on in your family and told you about his. Until we meet again…rest in peace.
