David Horton Clark

David Horton Clark

August 8, 1940 – August 18, 2025

David Horton Clark died peacefully on August 18, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elva; and his brother, Daniel (Agnes), all of Buffalo, New York.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy; children, Rebecca and Whitney (Van) of Walnut Creek, California. grandchildren: Nicholas, Ashley, Kyle and Emily, all of Walnut Creek, California; several nieces, nephews and their children, all of Omaha

Born in Buffalo, New York, David was a graduate of Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY. He went on to earn an MBA from Golden Gate College, San Francisco, CA.

He had a distinguished career in the US Army, achieving the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for exceptionally meritorious service as a commanding officer at Fort Ord, California.

After leaving the military he went on to achieve success in the business world. Starting out in sales, he quickly rose to management where he spent 35 years in the apparel industry. He was CEO of the Warnaco Company in New York before he retired in 2006.

Upon retirement, he spent time golfing and traveling. He loved to winter with his children and grandchildren in California followed by catching up with old friends in Amelia Island, Florida.

He was a wonderful, thoughtful and loving husband who will be deeply missed.

From his son:

In Loving Memory of Our Dad, Grandfather, and Uncle

To his family, he was not only Dad, Gramps, Mr. Clark, and Uncle David, but also a best friend, a source of strength, and a steady hand to hold through life’s ups and downs – he was our hero and our safe place.

With warmth, laughter, and unmatched charisma, the way he lit up a room the moment he walked in will never be forgotten. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved, always offering sage advice, a listening ear, or just the right words to lift a spirit. He showed us, by example, what it means to live with compassion, generosity, and grace.

To all who knew him, he was a true friend. His wisdom, love, and light live on in the stories we share, the lessons he instilled, and the way he made us feel when he was near.

Though we will miss him more than words can say, we are forever grateful for the love and joy he brought into our lives, and his spirit will forever shine in our hearts and minds and guide us forward.

My family was fortunate enough to live beside Nancy and Dave when they lived in Cary, NC. There has never been a better neighbor, friend, and confidante than Dave. My kids are all grown but still ask about “that nice guy with the giant sheep dogs.” Our hearts goes out to Nancy and the family – We are all blessed to have known him.
