HORKY, David L., Jul 4, 1946 Aug 23, 2012. David Lee Horky, 66, of Blair, NE died August 23rd at his home with his wife Marlys at his side. Dave was born July 4th, 1946 to Bernard and Irma Ecker Horky in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended West Concord High School in Minnesota and graduated from West Bend Iowa Community High School with the class of 1964. He received his B.A. degree in Physics from St. Johns University in Collegeville, Minnesota in 1968. Upon his college graduation, Dave was commissioned as an Ordinance Corps Second Lieutenant on May 26, 1968 in the United States Army. He served in South Korea near the demilitarized zone. He received his honorable discharge March 24, 1971 with continuing service in the US Army Reserves. Upon his discharge, Dave returned to Minnesota to work for Northwestern Bell. Dave and Marlys Kemna were married on June 14, 1972 at West Bends Catholic Church by Father Louis Greving. To this union, 3 children were born: Melinda, Paul, and Brent. The couple began their married life in Remsen, Iowa before moving to Blair, Nebraska in 1981. Dave was employed by MidAmerica Computer Corp., a subsidiary of Huntel Systems until his retirement in 2009. Dave and Marlys celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past June. Dave was a member of St. Frances Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, Nebraska serving both on the Pastoral Council and as a Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed golf, the outdoors, and the company of friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Irma Horky; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Caroline Kemna. He is survived by his wife, Marlys Kemna Horky of Blair; sons, Paul David Horky of Omaha and Brent Edward Horky of Jarvenpaa, Finland; daughter, Melinda Ann Guerry of Leage City, Texas; grandson, Jackson Wayne Guerry; granddaughters, Amelia Kate Guerry and Norah Elise Guerry; sister, Kathryn Bucher (Layne); brother, Jim Horky (Judy Seery). The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug 26, 2pm to 4pm at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, followed by ROSARY at 4pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Monday, Aug 27, 10am, St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
