Dean Hokanson Sr: beloved son of Dean and Mary, husband to Susie, brother to Monie Thompson, father to Bubba and Beau, father-in-law to Michelle, grandfather to Cole, uncle to Grant and Adam Thompson and larger than life cousin to the Butterfield family.

As a talented athlete his prowess on the football led to a football career that started at Central High School then K-State as a Wildcat and University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dean remained a loyal benefactor and supporter of all three programs throughout his life.

With little prospect of playing for the Chicago Bears he embarked on his professional career at Allied Insurance with his partner in crime Sandy Freidman. After selling the company he began his successful venture as a real estate broker, developer, investor and advisor in 1984 as Executive Vice President and shareholder at CBRE/Mega.  In 2016 Dean was inducted into the CRE Summit Hall of Fame recognizing the outstanding men and women of the local community who have made an impact on the commercial real estate industry based on the most influential deal and developments which helped to transform the community.

He is admired for his tireless work ethic, constant positivity, determination, drive and will but above all for his humanity and generous spirit. Many of these qualities he learned at a young age as an altar boy at Trinity Cathedral and later exemplified in various lay positions at All Saints Episcopal church.

His hobbies included staying healthy and fit with a vigorous exercise routine and pushing the golf ball from one side of the fairway to the other. Watching Saturday football was a favorite pastime with family and friends.

Dean was married to his beloved wife Susie for 52 years and lovingly proud of his two sons and grandson for the men they have become.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers. Please know that it is sincerely appreciated during our time of greatest need.

Remembering Dean’s wit as he many times would answer their home phone with: “Hoks’ Hall of Fame. Who in the hall do you want?”

Dean was always a kind, professional and generous person. I had the pleasure of working with him when I started in the commercial real estate business 27 years ago. He was always very giving of his time and knowledge to younger brokers. He will always be remembered as a wonderful and positive person who dearly loved his family and friends. Thank you Dean for you’re positive impact and contributions to our community. Rest in peace my friend.

More than sincere sympathy goes to Dean’s family. I only knew Bubba through working with him, but may he know my thoughts are with him and his family. We shared a few personal trials and it still remains a memory. Dean was a kind and thoughtful person; and he will be missed by all of you. May God bless all of you and your family!

Dean – I cant even begin to thank you for being such a great friend. I’m going to miss those times we would have lunch in your office, coming up with crazy promotions for Southport. But right now, I’m just missing my friend. Godspeed to you, sir.
