I am a retired engineering professor with home campus in Omaha. Even though I formally reported to UNL, I considered Del Webber as my real chancellor. He had courage of conviction to support out call for improvements and recognition. He was my hero and a rare leader in a world full of fear and self preservation. I am forever grateful to him. May god rest his soul in the paradise of joy and grant his friends and family comfort and satisfaction that he fought a good fight.

My condolences LuAnn, Bill, Beth and Kelly. I had the pleasure of working with and for Del during his time at the Omaha Community Foundation. He was one of the most humble and kind people I have ever met. He saw the best in everyone and brought out the best in everyone. He touched so many and I am fortunate to have been one of the lives he touched. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. Robin

I retired from UNO in 1989 but remember Del as a good friend of all faculty and staff – a truly remarkable person!

One time, we and a number of the student senate members were skipping class on a surprisingly warm day in early Spring – maybe February or March. Del ran into us as we headed to the nearby park and asked what we were doing. We honestly told him, and asked if he wanted to join us. It was evidently clear that he did, in fact, want nothing more than to join us! Of course, he meet his commitment and went to the meeting he had scheduled. But, it demonstrated his always-desire to stop and smell the roses. He and Lou Ann were, and no doubt Lou Ann continues to be, wonderful people. We, and all of UNO and all of Omaha, were blessed to have him in our lives.

On behalf of the Charles “Charlie” Hein family, deepest condolences. Del and my dad worked closely together at UNO during the 70s. We still have so many warm memories about that period of time at the university. May your memories be a blessing.
