Denis H. Ketcham

KETCHAM, Denis H., May 24, 1933 – Nov 21, 2011. Denis was born May 24, 1933, to Maurice H. Ketcham and Ruth (Anderson) Ketcham in Pico, California. Denis began piano lessons at age 7. In 1943 he moved with his family to the family farm near Spencer, Iowa—quite a change for a ten-year-old California kid! Although he grew to enjoy farm life, music became his life-long passion. He started playing professionally while in high school and there organized his first group. Through the years he played with various groups and bands as well as doing single gigs. He was the organist at St. Gerald Catholic Church for a number of years, and he was proud to say he played for Presidents Reagan and Truman as well as Warren Buffet. During his selling years he played in hundreds of area churches. Denis graduated from Spencer High School and served with the Army as a Corporal in the Korean War. He married Rosalee Schlesser in 1958 at Struble, Iowa. Music guided his career. He worked in various positions for the Baldwin and Allen Organ Companies, including owning local stores. In recent years after retirement, he enjoyed bringing the joy of music to retirement homes. Denis was a member of St. Gerald Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Denis was preceded in death by his parents and brother Patrick. He is survived by his wife, Rosalee I. Ketcham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Marsha Ketcham of Papillion, Dan and Aimee Ketcham of Omaha; five Ketcham grandchildren: Lauren, Kelsey, Connor, Dillon and Alexis; sisters and brothers-in-law: Erin and Dave Willard of Jacksonville, Florida, Michaela and James Cullen of Spencer, Iowa. The family will receive friends Friday, 5pm to 7pm at St. Gerald Catholic Church, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Saturday, 10am, St. Gerald Catholic Church. Interment, Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Gerald Catholic Church, American Cancer Society, or your favorite charity.
