Dennis Eugene Smith

Dennis Eugene Smith

April 15, 1944 – October 18, 2020

Dennis Eugene Smith, born on April 15, 1944, entered into his rest on October 18, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Cross Smith.

Dennis graduated from Creighton Prep in 1962, and Creighton University in 1966. He proudly served in Vietnam as part of the Army in the First Cavalry, B-Company, 2nd/7th. He returned stateside to marry his college sweetheart, Wilma Dugan, on May 6, 1969. Together they were proud to raise four children: Shane, Shannon, Ryan, and Corey (married to Karen Popp Smith).  Dennis and Wilma adore their three grandchildren: Brady, Dugan, and Cecelia.

Dennis was a servant leader, a man of quiet faith, a bookworm, a storyteller, a crossword puzzle aficionado, a punster, a Cubs baseball devotee, and a Willie Nelson fan. He loved a dirty vodka martini and rarely met a dessert he didn’t like. He loved nothing as much as he loved his family.

To the Smith family: My sincere condolences to all of you. I have fond memories of gatherings at the Smith home. Your parents had such a sense of humor and we shared many laughs together. Your family’s love and support for others is one of my good memories of being at St. Roberts. May your past memories give you comfort and peace during this difficult time. He is at peace. Blessings, Sue Wiley
