Dennis M. Twomey
July 20, 1948 – January 8, 2025
Dennis (Denny) Melvin Twomey was born to the late Jim and Rayna (Jones) Twomey on July 20, 1948 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2025, at his home in Omaha, Ne.
In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by his son Christopher Twomey. He is survived by his wife Ann (Lukowski) Twomey, brother Mike Twomey, daughter Denise (Ken) Dukat, daughter-in-law Katie (Twomey) Smith, grandkids Mason Twomey, Peyton, Patrick, and Parker Dukat.
Denny went to Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. He later enlisted in the United States Navy On August 11, 1967. He served in Vietnam where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class.
After the Navy Denny returned to Council Bluffs and joined the Chicago Northwestern Railroad working various positions. He finished his career at Union Pacific as a Train Master. Even following retirement he would meet monthly with old work colleagues for lunch.
Denny enjoyed 44 years of marriage to the love of his life Ann. They built a life of love and laughter together. Some of the things he enjoyed was time on the patio grilling with Ann. Watching Husker football and playing keno with his buddies. Annual trips to Colorado for the family vacation when the kids were younger. Enjoying time at the Lake of the Ozarks with his kids and grandkids where the neighbors referred to him as “Mayor of the Lower Deck” knowing you couldn’t walk by without Denny striking up a conversation.
Denny considered his greatest accomplishment his two kids. He instilled many of his characteristics in them including the importance of family and celebrating life. He passed his passion for golf and bowling to his son Christopher and his love of softball and bowling to his daughter Denise. He never missed a grandchild’s birthday, sporting event or school program.
Denny will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all that were fortunate enough to know him.
