In Loving Memory of Deron C. Moore
January 6, 1960-October 25, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deron Charles Moore, a beloved father, husband, “papa,” and friend to many. Deron left this world on October 25, 2023, at the age of 63.
Deron was a pillar of strength and kindness in the Omaha community. He touched the lives of countless individuals with his unwavering support and service as a police officer.
Deron was preceded in death by his father, Warren Charles Moore; father-in-law, Daniel Breen; and mother-in-law, Ruth Breen. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patty Moore; children: Mallorie Curran (Seth), Matthew Moore (Jillian), and Jamie Jacobs (Jason); grandchildren: Maddox, Landon, McKenna, and Harper; mother, Margaret Moore; siblings, Scott (Kim), Brian (Gina), and Dave (Elena); many relatives and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of service to others, a child-like sense of adventure, and a deep love for his family. He will be missed dearly.
Deron was born on January 6, 1960, in Omaha, Nebraska. Growing up, Deron’s father, Warren, moved the family around the country due to work. The family spent time in Des Moines, Long Beach, and Cedar Rapids before moving back to Omaha in 1974. Deron graduated from Omaha Burke High School in 1978 and began attending classes at the University of Omaha (UNO) while working security for Brandeis Department Store.
While working at Brandeis, Deron met Patty. During their initial conversation, they found out not only did they graduate from the same high school class, but they worked at the same employer when they were 16 years old. While they had multiple opportunities to meet before Brandeis, when their paths finally did cross again, their relationship blossomed into one of humor, adventure, and love.
In 1984, Deron began his career as an officer at the Omaha Police Department. His occupation reflected his commitment to the Omaha community and the importance he placed on service-leadership. He was a respected officer and was awarded such merits as “Police Officer of the Month” in December of 2005. After his retirement from the police force in 2007, he continued to work part-time in public safety.
Deron was passionate about hiking, cycling, and camping. On any given day, Deron could be found on the mountain bike trails of Tranquility or Swanson. Deron was a seasoned explorer as well, embarking on many camping trips to various local and national parks and forests. His love for the outdoors will be remembered fondly by those who biked, hiked, or camped with him.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Deron’s life will be held on November 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with a Visitation at 10:00 a.m., at Heafey Hoffmann Dworak & Cutler (7805 W. Center Road. Omaha, NE 68124). In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed by the family. The family plans to donate to organizations that honor Deron’s passion for biking and hiking; while providing ongoing enjoyment for others in the years to come.
Deron Charles Moore will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to shine through the cherished memories he leaves behind. May he rest in eternal peace.

Deron and I came on the OPD in the same class, worked together in the downtown area for many years, retired at the same time and then we started working part time at the library. I always enjoyed chatting with him, liked his sense of humor and admired his work ethic. He was a good friend and great Officer who was taken way to early.
Thoughts and prayers to Patty and his entire family.
Will miss you Deron! We came to the Academy together. Worked our first three years together on midnights. Lots of great experiences together as Rookies.
My condolences Patty. It just doesn’t seem fair, but the Lord must have his reasons. I know Deron will be put to much use in heaven being a mentor for souls seeking guidance on earth.
So sorry to hear of Deron passing. We worked together at Brandeis in the Loss Prevention office until I left to work in OPD Detention. About a year later it was great to meet again as recruits in the OPD Police Academy. We eventually worked together downtown as Patrol and Beat Officers. He had a great demeanor and work ethic. I met him, crossing paths, a little more than a year ago in the morning at a gas station where we had great conversation about anything and everything that lasted about a half hour. Deron was a great guy that was well liked by everyone I knew. We will all miss him.
Uncle Deron always seemed to have a slightly ornery, wry smile on his face with a twinkle in his eye. He will be missed. Sending our condolences and so sorry we couldn’t be there today, Thinking of you all today. Love, Liv and Jarrett Fontaine and fam
My heart breaks for you and your family Patty. My prayers are with you. May God bring you peace and understanding in the coming days and may all of your memories be a blessing!
My condolences and sympathy to the entire family and relatives of Deron Moore. I came to know of Deron through his older brother, Brian (a long-time friend), beginning in 1979. I had heard of Deron working as in Security and then becoming a Police Officer in Omaha and having a very successful career. His passing away was too soon and just try to cherish the pleasant times with him. You are in my prayers.
