Derrick Lamar Smith
September 17, 1957 – January 6, 2025
VISITATION: Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. at the West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Road, Omaha.
Born in Orlando, Florida to Edward Smith and Annie Lois Shopshire, he attended Orlando High School playing football as a running back. He enjoyed sports, traveling, and playing cards. Dressing up was Derrick’s joy and he praised the Lord Jesus Christ.
Derrick moved to Omaha, Ne in 2006 with his girlfriend, Annette Branon, where they had 3 children. After Annette’s passing, he lived with his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Robert Brannon for years being adopted by the family. He worked at Iowa Western Community College. He loved his new family, traveling everywhere with his brothers-in-law, Rodney and Eddie Brannon and uncles and aunt, Steve Clayton and Martha and Robert Lillard. Derrick enjoyed telling his uncle Steve to cook a good meal.
A true man of God and a real friend to all he met. Derrick will truly be missed. Words can’t say how good this man was as a family member.
