Dianne Dell (Fager) Fitzgerald
July 5, 1946-October 27, 2024
Dianne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother Lillian (Gustafson) Fager and father, James Harold Fager, and her brother James Keith Fager.
Dianne is survived by her husband of 55 years, James P. (Jim) Fitzgerald, their son Jimmie Fitzgerald and his wife Jocelyn, and three grandchildren, Taelyn, Leilani, and James, who live in Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by her brothers Howard and Jack (Irene) Fager and nieces Jennifer, Susan, Jill, Carrie, Christie, Dawn and Kym.
Dianne and Jim met on a blind date in Lincoln where she was attending Nebraska Wesleyan University, and he was at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. They married shortly after Jim graduated and before the Army sent him to serve in Viet Nam. The couple returned to Omaha after Jim completed his service at various US bases. Dianne supported them while Jim completed his education at Creighton Law School.
After their son, Jimmie, arrived, Dianne found her favorite occupation – full time Mom. She was a tireless volunteer at Jimmie’s school, helping wherever needed. She was a Cub Scout den leader and a supporter for many of the youth sports teams.
She loved going to Corpus Christi, Texas – especially in the winters. When the grandchildren came, she loved being their grandmother and spending time with them.
Dianne was also an enthusiastic sports fan. She loved tailgating for Nebraska football games and the College World Series. She could also be spotted cheering at Creighton basketball games. In her later years she became a fan of the Houston Astros.
She loved entertaining at tailgate parties, river rafting trips, pool parties, Christmas parties and anything that involved family and friends, food and drink.
After a long battle with COPD, she is at peace.

What an incredible soul Dianne was, she left her mark in the world with her big heart. She took great pide and care for those of us that were lucky enough to call her a friend. I will never forget her loving friendship and she will be greatly missed. I know there are no words that can ease your pain. She is at peace now. I’m thinking of you and wishing you moments of peace and comfort” I am sending you healing prayers and love always.
I’m soooo soooo sorry for your loss!! I’ve met her a few times at the Ducat house and of those times? She was the most entertaining, vibrant kinda on the wild side, Nani!! She loved all the grandchildren.., but hey? If you forget to clean off your plate of food? Lemme tell ya?? She was right on that plate!!! Haha Any how… she was such a kind hearted soul!!! May she rest in eternal peace!!! God bless the family!!!
Uncle Jim, Jimmy, Joycelyn and kids. Bob and I were so sad to learn of Aunt Dianne’s passing. I am happy that she is no longer suffering. My hope is that with time you will find peace and can recover from the loss. I will always remember her determination, her love of football and baseball (and her support for LSU when they made it to the CWS). I also am grateful I had the chances to discuss family hidtory with her. I think of her every time I open the fridge when I see the margarine and her chore as a child to mix the yellow dye in the family’s margarine container. I will truly miss her. Hugs!!
Jim and family – so sorry to hear of Dianne’s passing. You have my deepest sympathy.
