Dolores “Dee” Harrison
November 24, 1934 – June 2, 2023
Dolores M. Harrison (Dee) was born November 24, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up in Carter Lake, Iowa. She was eighty-eight years old when she was called home on June 2, 2023 to continue her faithful worship in the presence of her lord and savior Jesus Christ.
She was the second daughter to Charles and Mary Waltrip. She had three brothers: Leonard (predeceased), Johnny (predeceased), Jerry and two sisters Kathy (predeceased) and her older sister Patricia.
Dee graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1953. Soon after high school she married Robert S. Harrison Jr. (Bob). From 1953-1960 she and Bob were stationed at Barksdale Airforce Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 1960 she returned with the family to live in Carter Lake, Iowa for the remainder of her life. Her seven children are: Michael Harrison (predeceased), Steve and Bing Harrison, Christopher and Diane Harrison, Cheryl and Pat McAtee, Yvette and Tim Nervig, Nadine and Gus Cross, Lisa and Greg Hess.
Dee has twenty two grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren.
When Dee’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Dee was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always there to volunteer to help the school, community organizations, voting polls on election night and most passionately her church. Dee served in the church in many ways and was a leader to many in the church who could count on her to get things done.
She will be affectionately missed by all who knew her.
